China has few environmental regulations, so it has become the most polluted country on the planet. Jobs and economic growth come at a price.

It may not be easy to frac these fields, plus China has draught problem too. Expect China to import LNG for a while.

At least they're trying to tap their own natural resources. Growing demand for energy there will have a major impact on world markets.

They need to develop the shale projects. Then they could convert their pollution spewing oil burning plants to reduce the pollution they are sending all over the world.

China will be the new superpower that the US made rich. After all, didn't they just buy an oil company from Canada for 15 billion in "Walmart" cash. They can't wait for the benefits they will receive from the Keystone pipeline.

I wonder if the Chinese will be concerned at all about sealing the wells properly to avoid release of methane and air pollution which will then circulate globally.

With China's huge growing need for oil. Who is doing the drilling for them? 30 years ago, China had no drilling industry..
Are we shipping our oil technology to China? What do we get in return? High fuel price at the pump?

It is about time the Chinese start to utilize (exploit) their own natural resources other than their subjugated population.

"proven engineering expertise" Ha Ha. You mean like those relatively new sky scrapers that had to be torn down because the foundation tipped? You mean the bridges that collapsed when less than a decade old? You mean the satellites they managed to launch after stealing technology from the west? You mean coupled with its slave labor...worked 14-18 hours a day....
China will always have some degree of success. At least this may keep some of the people there from freezing to death.
