Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, who helped lead the government's response to the largest offshore oil spill in U.S. history, said on Wednesday he will leave his post by the end of March to return to his Colorado ranch.

The former U.S. senator came to office pledging to clean up the "mess" at the Interior Department, but it was the massive 2010 BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that ultimately spurred the dramatic overhaul of the nation's offshore drilling regulator.

Salazar's departure comes as President Barack Obama's cabinet undergoes the typical make-over for the second term, and will be part of an opportunity to remake the entire energy team.

I still find it very amusing that the senators Obammy and Saladzar voted for the 2005 Energy Act that the anti-hydro fracturing crowd likes to espouse as a loophole!

It is good riddance, but the replacement will likely be worse for our economy.

Good riddance. Unfortunately someone as bad if not worse could replace him.

Along with him, four other secretaries of cabinet level agencies have left the administration.

I hope the door does hit him in the rear end on his way out. More rats jumping from the proverbial sinking ship.

Loved some of the other comments here.

I hope the energy policy is a little more green based for the good of the people, rather than beholding to the big oil political contributors as in the past.

The whole of Interior Dept. a joke , more like InFERIOR Dept. I know it isn't easy but first good thing that needs to happen is outlawing "Ethanol " as it is a Lose, lose situation. Costs consumers in the long run on repairs that regular gas wouldn't and would get better mileage than currently getting.

This segment of the cabinet is crucial for the future of America's energy. A difficult task to be sure. The balance between energy independence and protecting our air and water is a job I would not care for. I'd like to see a blend of knowledgable oil people and environmental scientists. Sure it would make for a noisy room, but beats the heck out of appointing a career politician trying to please the masses. We all need to pay close attention to the Department of Interior.

If you think the last four years were strange, the next four will blow your mind! The real Obama will emerge as he can't be re-elected. Also look for an attempt to repeal the 22nd amendment.

Big business always seems to attempt to screw the people, therefore we have to keep regulating. Why not have the business be responsible? We would neverneed the EPA if this was the case, yet Americans blame government.....blame the money mongers.
