The justification being that people who go to casinos generally drive there?

Are there enough Indians in Virginia to operate the new casinos?

Sounds like a good idea. Those who go to casinos don't seem to mind losing money. So just lose some to the government.

Fools rush in, where wise men never go. So, go ahead; lose your cash at the casino(s).

Casinos? Well it's better than tolls and taxes. Why stop at casinos? Why not also have legal prostitution to fund roads and bridges?
I am libertarian on some issues.

I tend to agree with hornet17 about the problems associated with using gambling as a revenue source, because it relies on people to do dumb things on a mass level in order to be viable. When people do the math and get smart (as well as recover from their gambling addictions), then the revenue would dry up.
Okay, so it's only a theory, and it seems that the gambling industry is in no danger of going belly-up; but just because "it works" doesn't mean that government should be involved in taking money from people who mostly can't afford it (gambling tends to be highly regressive) and getting them hooked on something attractive but unproductive that lures them in with promises/perceptions of "something for nothing" while the odds always favor the house. Granted, there are some who can stop after a certain budget they've set aside for it to whom it's just recreation - but the risk is just too great.

Build good casinos each with different themes, as well as plenty of gaming options, restaurants, shops and so on. That will give Virginia more options for tourists. More tourists, more money.

Not a bad idea providing that they don't offer too big a tax break to the Casinos. This would be a well placed use tax if accepted and takes some of the burden from the commuter In another article, we note that tolls do not pay for roads "per se".

They use the lottery why not casinos.Minot, ND is at $3.09 a gallon for gasoline. 25 miles to the south gasoline is $2.99 a gallon, Minot needs to drop another 10 cents a gallon!!! This will make them the same as Bismarck which the prices usually match.

Gambling to repair or build roads is novel idea, but an idea full of risks.

And I remember a time when only mobsters ran casinos. What's next government sponsored brothels? Oh wait, they did try that already.

Just set up slots at the toll booths and eliminate the middle man, probably would increase traffic...

Other than gambling addictions, money laundering, loan sharking and a host of other crimes, what harm can be done by this? ;)
