Japanese automaker Honda says it will cut about one in four jobs at its United Kingdom factory as it struggles with low demand in Europe.

Honda Motor Europe says poor sales across Europe due to the region's economic crisis are behind the loss of 800 positions among its 3,500 member workforce in Swindon. The plant makes the Civic, Jazz and CR-V models.

Auto sales have been in the tank in Europe for all automakers. The Euro zone crisis is far from over; at least this is what the majority of Europeans believe. It is only good sound business decision to cut back production in European plants. Hence the European auto workers lose their jobs.

It's already hitting us here. An acquaintance has already been cut from full-time to part-time by Honda.

I don't (and he doesn't) fault Honda. We fault a federal government that seems hell-bent on killing the American free-enterprise system.

I had an '86 CRX. Best car I've ever had. Got 35 mpg everywhere and that was 20 years ago.

Yep, just a matter of time before it hits the US, with any automaker. Tooo many changes, toooo many regulations, not enough stability in autos.

Shows what austerity economics can do to a country's economy. If you plan to fail economically, you will succeed.

Not good news for the United Kingdom. Wonder if Honda will cut jobs in the USA if the demand for their vehicles goes down.
