REXBURG — Gas prices on Thursday and Friday dipped below $3 at most service stations for a gallon of regular unleaded for the first time in about a year, to the relief of consumers.

“In Rexburg I think it’s about time,” Colin Himmelstein said while filling his SUV at Maverik on Second East in Rexburg. “It’s too much everywhere.”

After topping $4 for a gallon earlier in 2012, prices have been falling steadily.

Himmelstein isn’t optimistic that prices will remain low for long.

“I’m sure this summer it’s going to go back up,” he said. “Short lived, but it’ll be nice while it lasts.”

With lower demand and higher supplies it does not make sense. I guess all we can do it continue to reduce consumption where we can.
