According to a story first reported by the Washington Guardian, the Obama administration will ask Congress to approve the plan in hopes of opening a full-scale storage facility by 2025 — and a permanent geologic repository by 2048.

All of the sites would be chosen with the consent of the host communities.

The Energy Department’s move Friday marked the Obama administration’s first key action on nuclear waste since canceling plans to discard nuclear waste from power plants at the Yucca Mountain geologic repository in Nevada.

I thought Yucca Mountain was the ultimate nuclear respository, now they want another location? In certain cases nuclear waste will be generated but limit the generation of nuclear waste so waste storage sites can be kept to a minimum. And don't take so long for a permanent waste site selection. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, vehicle manufactures Produce and the population ‘Drives’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. In all seriousness, decades of burning coal have dispersed tons of mercury into the air, only to have it settle into our very sizable oceans. Result? We have to watch how much fish we eat because of the mercury in their bodies. So, maybe the oceans don't do as great a job at dispersal as you might think.

It has the potential to wipe out all future generations of our families on earth. There presently is not a safe method of either destroying or storing nuclear waste and many scientists say that there never will be as it takes thousands of years to breakdown!

Outside of Las Vegas, Nevada is already one of the most sparsely populated regions in our country and they said no to building one at Yucca Mountain. Who else wants to step up?

Typical that the government plans to take 35 years to accomplish something. Assuming that they actually meet this timetable which is unlikely. The only thing this administration seems good for is wasting taxpayers money.
