Oh, I forgot, it is the Guardian!! Scientists have their own believes and biases. That's why there are 2 sides to every story. But all academic studies and publications are subject to peer review. One can argue about the validity of the data and conclusions regardless of who pay for the study.

Unfortunately, the scientific community is much like any other profession and can be (at times) bought and sold as a commodity on the open market. While ethics should play a large part in the outcome, does it?

Sure, let's just all ignore the routine daily conversion of billions of gallons of fresh drinking water used for fracking into undrinkable water. Energy independence would be great but we still need water to drink.
