USA TODAY - That early winter break you've been getting at the gasoline pump? It's beginning to show signs of cracking.

Gasoline prices remain below $3 a gallon in at least 50 percent or more outlets in 14 states. But the national average has crept up three cents to $3.30 a gallon the past week and 8 cents since hitting a 2012 low of $3.22 in mid-December.

New temporary oil and gas boom in the country and yet consumer pump prices are going up? In my area prices are still going down thankfully.

They might as well go up, if they stayed below $4 for much longer BHO and his cronies would be upping the federal gas tax. Maybe they are already working on that.

What low prices?? Gas surely can't be going up due to an improving economy.

LOW gas prices? Our gas prices are at historical all-time highs for this time of year. Our very corrupt government refuses to properly regulate the culprits responsible for our insane oil and gas prices.

1. Speculators. They concoct any insane excuse for raising oil and gas market prices.

2. Big Oil. They don't properly maintain and repair their pipelines and refineries so every year we have refinery fires, explosions, and malfunctions. Then they sell and shut down refineries, and arrange for many of the existing refineries to purposely operate well below refining capacity to create artificial shortages in gasoline to push gasoline prices higher.
I understand big oil exporting oil and gas to make profits but when they export so much distillate fuel to keep diesel prices insanely high, then the government should do something to encourage big oil to keep more distillate fuel here but our government just does not care one bit if we pay 3$ for gasoline or 6$ for gasoline.

Our government has not shown any interest in lowering energy prices for their citizens. In fact, energy prices have skyrocketed under Bush and especially under Obama, like our electric bills, many of which have jumped up to 50% in just one year.

After 2012's all-time high gas prices, which broke 2011's all-time high gas prices, I "look forward to" speculators and big oil pushing our gas prices to new all-time highs for 2013 because our government will not adequately regulate these bastards and we'll see many refineries blow up, catch fire, or malfunction again. Who remembers last year, in Washington state, California, Texas, or Venezuela's refineries that caught fire or blew up?

So if they don't will these idiot prognosticators give us money? Put your money where your mouth is USA Today. Predictions of gas prices are a waste of time and those who make them usually have a hidden agenda.

Refineries must be restricting output to increase margins. Nationalize the oil industry. They have too much economic power in too few hands.

Ours bottomed out about a week to 10 days ago at $3/gal. Now most satations have it for $3.29/gal give or take a little bit. That's here in the Chicagoland area.

Gas prices go up, gas prices go down. As much as people would love to blame someone, Obama doesn't set the gas prices.
