LANSING, MI — Michigan’s gas price averaged $3.69 per gallon last year, setting a new annual record for the state.

The 2012 average came in 10 cents higher than 2011 and 89 cents more than 2010, according to Dearborn-based auto club AAA Michigan.

Last year was a “pretty ugly year at the gas pump,” marred with volatility due to refinery and other issues, said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy

More refineries= more sources= more options= more competition= lower prices= recovering economy.
