Zuegma, great post. You must realize though that there are those that will ignore your post. They will not consider the common sense you show and they will completely overlook the facts in favor of fear, paranoia and propaganda.

@Zuegma
How can we continue to fear the unknown when you report evidence and knowledge of the topic? You must be called out as an enemy of consensus and delegitimized! Or ignored.Good post, keep it up.

Do not tell the eco-terrorists that. They will have to make up some new fantasy about fracking.

NY State presently does NOT allow fracking; so then their citizens are presently not exposed to the effects of fracking; yet NY state Health says fracking is not harmful. Based on what conclusions, that all NY Citizens are healthy, so then fracking must not have an effect on their citizens. If based on this false conclusion, then the report is a total fallacy! NY Post, pretty sad journalism. Is the NY Post part of the R. Murdoch/faux news; dis-credible/despicable news twisting journalism.

It would be a good start if they would test it in DC; at least a 1000 times to be sure.

From the article: "Supporters of natural-gas drilling say a year-old draft state Health Department report that’s been kept under wraps"
================================================================
Why would a government agency suppress this information?

When did Rupert Murdoch purchase the NY Post??
"“New York can create more than 25,000 jobs, save family farms, keep families together and lift entire communities by moving forward with safe natural-gas development,” said New York State Petroleum Council Executive Director Karen Moreau.
Brad Gill, executive director of the Independent Oil & Gas Association of New York, said, “We just certainly hope that the obstacles will stop being thrown in the way and the industry can begin drilling here.”"
Of course the NY State Petroleum Council plus the Independent Oil & Gas Assoc. believe this faux news. Just the usual industry spin and bull.

The only way fluides from the well bore can enter the ground water is if the casing and cement job is not %100, and believe me it happens and usually ends up in a blow out.

..."properly regulated fracking in upstate New York would be safe."
Of course, that's the point. These fracking corporations lack proper regulatory oversight and are screwing up the environment and harming humans.

Your typical groundwater is typically much less than 1,000 feet.
Shallow gas plays where hydraulic fracturing is used is anywhere from 2 to 4,000 feet. You can not lift/break through thousand of feet of overburden from hydraulic fracturing: they create at most 50 to 60 yards fractures proped up with sand to prevent the fracture from closing when the pressure is stopped. The chemicals used are typically a lead acid (hydrochloric) to clean out the wellbore perforations (a couple hundred gallons which are rapidly spent)followed by thousands of gallons of water and in the later stages with sand (having fluidizer chemicals to keep the sand from clumping. When the fractures occur, the pressure drops and the well/fluids are then flowed & pumped back.
Unless the annular space between the original well bore bit size and the external well casing's outer diameter has not been properly cemented, then it is impossible for the fluids/hydrocarbons to migrate up to the (typically surficial) aquifers. You can not accumulate hydrocarbons unless some of the overlying layers act as barriers.
In most countries around the world, oil companies have to provide measured proof that their casing was successfully cemented (and when flaws were detected, that cement squeeze(s)were performed to correct zones without hydraulic integrity).
In North America alone, some 100,000 plus wells have underwent some form of hydraulic fracturing safely in the last 40 years. It's nothing new!

What is properly regulated fracking? How much regulation is not enough or too much?

In this article:
“What was in this draft was not based on any science, was not based on any analysis,”
Ah ha...
I suppose the pro-fracking fools will take a pro-fracking cartoon as evidence, but fortunately most know better.

If they worry about ground water contamination, then use different technology like gasfrac.
