Paying more taxes is bad, but having the deficit still go up after the tax increase is worse.
I put blame on the party that refused to lower spending.

Too bad that Osama Obama wasn't honest about his intentions during the campaign. He might be preparing for his retirement right now.Oh well,he doesn't have to worry about the voters any more...he has more "flexibility" now (as he told Vlad Putin some months ago).

Of course highdesertman likely paid a much smaller percentage of income for the SS payroll tax a good part of his working life . And of course he won't admit it/ Typical liberal

The Social Security tax holiday was always scheduled to expire and the media are making way too big of a deal out of the resulting "tax increase." How many of the complainers would be willing to get lower SS benefits when they retire? The rest of us who paid our way throughout our working careers have earned our benefit. Current workers should do the same.

I'm so infuriated by my Soc Security taxes increasing by over $2k annually. Politicians raise taxes, give themselves raises. They're scrambling to replace trillions of $$$ they stole from Social Security Fund. Americans are getting squeezed from ALL angles. I read where some congressman said these tax breaks were known to be only for a short period of time, because they were seen as a stimulus to a struggling economy. THE ECONOMY IS STILL IN THE TANK! Wake Up Washington!

Decrease our income by ending the payroll tax holiday and raise gas prices. The economy needs to completely break down.

. @EVOWNER: Obama and the Liberal Dumbocrats sent the Bill to the House. The House vote HAD to be made Up or Down with no amendments or changes, so it was the Liberal Dumbocrtas that raised Taxes, NOT Tea Party Members.
FACT: Almost every Tea Party Members of Congress voted AGAINST this Bill. FACT: 151 Republicans voted against this Tax and Spend Dumbocratic Legislation! The only reason it passed in the House was because 85 RINO Republicans voted along with all but 8 Dumbocrats to get it passed.Maybe in the future, how about getting the facts before posting!

You can't have something for nothing.
Services require taxes. If you want highways, defense, etc. you have to pay for it. State and local governments get federal support, too, though tea party legislators keep reducing that support. And that's why your property taxes keep going up - state and local governments trying to make up for lower federal support.
Be sure to ask your local rich folks to spend the money you saved them in taxes. Maybe something will trickle down to you.

evowner has no clue. The demo led Senate sent the Obama bill to the republican house and demanded a straight up or down vote with no changes.
next the sandy relief bill with 9 billion for sandy and 51 billion of pork for trees in ohio, and money for hollywood among the items

@evowner, I suppose the Liberal Democrats had nothing to do with raising the taxes, or failing to cut the spending. Are they not (Senate) the ones that sent the Bill over to the House?

I don't know about anyone else but I heard my lst lye coming from Washington. First, there was no cliff cause the real one is coming in February when we will decide to borrow another two to four trillion dollars to continue to fund all this crap. Second, were not stupid enough to really think that you are going to insure thirty million folks for free, really? Lastly we just are moving forward from another prosecution of two wars at much higher costs than we were told, ya think? . . . . . So to me the bottom line is we have to begin to place controls on Washington and the "cronnie capitalism" that results from no term limits and a disinfranchised voter who can no longer depend on the media to provide real facts. . . . . . just sayin.

Not surprising at all - how else would they reduce their debt when currently they are not even making minimum monthly payments towards reducing it.

There goes more incentive to work hard and be productive. Being one of the 47% that get more from the government looks more and more attractive. Why should one try to climb out.
As a physician I make good money, but I tell you, there sure is a lot less incentive to bust my ass. I work about 260 hours a month and more often I find myself asking --- WHY?

Lovely, let's pay more in taxes so that we bring home less pay and raise the gas price on the optimism of the "thriving economy"!
Seriously, is the congress we elected out there doing what is best for the average citizen.....I think NOT! I can only hope that the shifting of newly elected congress will turn things around in Washington.....we can hope, can't we?
