Taxation without accountability....It is clear fraud and nothing happens except an 'I'm Sorry, for getting caught' but the municipalities just refund the money and should pay each person double the fine they charged them.

Municipalities should buy the cameras not pay part of each ticket to the manufacturer - wrong incentive

If the product you manufacture is defective; yes you should be held accountable.

Agreed. The traffic camera manufacturers should pay a fine for each error.

Another loser legislator looking for a penny under every rock. Except, that he just might be on to something. If the manufacturers are fined enough they may no longer want to sell and maintain cameras (that's a plus); and, if the municipalities are faced with expensive audits, they may find the profits dwindle to the point where they no longer want cameras (another plus).

Only if every legislator (professional politician) is given the maximum punishment for their massive crimes including traffic cameras.

"Traffic Camera Manufacturers Should Be Fined For Each Error" Agreed, and they should pay punitive damages as well.

So not only do cities get get ticket payouts, but mistake payouts too. I think the mistake payouts should go to the people who were mistakenly ticketed.

I agree... get rid of the cameras. They are run by 3rd parties who get paid a percentage of the tickets. They have no reason to make them accurate.

How's about getting rid of the cameras altogether?? Does not really provide "safety", just revenues!

How about occasional testing by the authorities who install them in the first place? Seems like someone in the County should be held accountable for this kind of problem rather than the manufacturer. Sounds like a "pass the buck" activity rather than "the buck stops" with the person responsible for their use.

Problem is, if they are fined, it will be passed onto everyone else. I can seem them adjusting their cameras to maximize the tickets.

while the Senators' chest-pounding can be expected, the article fails to state why the camera's were not working correctly, as well as a host of other facts. a camera takes a picture, so what was inaccurate?
a sloppy, poorly written article to say the least.

great idea, but most people don't even try to fight the ticket, and most municipalities don't allow any dispute because the "camera doesn't lie" RIGHT?

Better yet, the mayor and each city council member of any city that uses these entrapment devices should spend a day in jail for each error.

Misguided logic. Speeding fines are to deter speeding for safety, not revenue enhancement.

I agree manufactures should be fined and just like radar detectors that cops use these should have to be tested and regular submit to audits! Chances are the manufacture makes more than the goverment on these devices. Granted the goverment will get their hands in the pot to get their share too.
