That absolutely should not happen.
Werich44 says you will not have to wait until 2025 with Obama running the show. Well you know what... he's right.
Republican Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has a theory. If pilotless drones are good enough to patrol the skies over Afghanistan than they are good enough to patrol the skies over Virginia. “I think we ought to be using technology to make law enforcement more productive; it cuts down on manpower in the air — and more safe. That’s why we use it on the battlefield.”
There ya go my fellow gas buddy, you can move to Virginia. Your governor is gonna keep ya real safe.

. One more reason not to live in California! One more way for California to waste tax payer money and create a police state. The public should demand a law to prevent this!

there are many things for the FAA - controls the US airspace - to work out before police departments, or anyone else for that matter, will be able use drones

Initially for our safety, of course, they claim the drone would be used for surveillance only but the ShadowHawk Unmanned Aerial Vehicle has previously been used against suspected terrorists in Afghanistan and East Africa. It has the ability to tase suspects from above as well as carrying 12-gauge shotguns and grenade launchers. If your not doing anything wrong then you don't have anything to worry about. Ain't it great...?

Well, all they need to do is tell the gullible masses that the drones are needed to:
a. Help the children & education b. combat climate change c. ensure that the wealthy pay their fair share
Boom! Project accepted. Damn the consequences, they have good intentions.

From the article: "The police vehicles would feature a “unicycle-like” robot and a flying drone that could theoretically disable cars from the air with an electromagnetic pulse."
" . . autonomous vehicles that could pursue criminals through land, air, and water. . . flying drones could effectively monitor speeding drivers from the air."
=================================================================
Be wary, citizens of California, Texas, and Washington, because your state governments are looking to encroach a little more into your personal lives. Passage of the NDAA on 12/31 of last year was indeed a dark day for Americans. It allows the President the authority to use the military to arrest and detain (indefinitely) Americans that are SUSPECTED of being "terrorists" without even formally charging said citizen of a crime and without the protections of our Constitution (habeas corpus, etc.)
BO's military has already used drones to execute an American citizen without even a trial. Is this a good idea? Some have argued: "If you're not guilty, you have nothing to worry about". But now we are empowering the government to be the judge, jury, and executioner. I just don't believe that this much power should be given to a government over it's citizens.

Drone flying above friend or foe? Air pollution of private drones? Legality of flying low over private property?

Driverless vehicles are more dangerous than speeding drivers. There are too many variables involved in driving to have everything automated. I like some of the automation (like cruise control slowing down to keep pace with the car ahead), but emergency maneuvers have too many options to trust to a machine. As for the electromagnetic pulse disabling a fleeing vehicle, it would require a very narrow focus, or the absence of innocent drivers in the vicinity. ...And once law enforcement has it for traffic enforcement, they would use it for other objectives. We should not have to fear our government!

As long as they only observe and report. Disabling vehicles should only be done to intoxicated and reckless drivers, otherwise it's not worth the risk to other motorists.
