And of course I'm stuck with it for two years until my renewal window opens up, at which time I can change to another car, but I'll have to wait 6 months for the license plate transfer. sound familiar?

This doesn't say anything about enabling texts or that type of similar distractions, it enables apps that provide services to the car that aren't providing distractions at all -- and one of the apps is specifically to disable texts, calls, and web browsing on your smart phone until the car is parked or the parking brake engaged. That and some of the others sound as if they're especially well-suited to monitoring the driving habits of teens who use the car, quite the opposite of encouraging poor driving. Nicoalbum, thanks for posting -- it's an interesting article, about a potentially useful new product!
