IRVING, Texas — Exxon Mobil Corp. is raising CEO Rex W. Tillerson's salary 6 percent to $2.72 million on Jan. 1.

The oil giant said Tuesday in a regulatory filing that Tillerson will also get a bonus of $4.59 million and 225,000 shares of restricted stock.

Tillerson's 2012 salary was $2.57 million, which was up from $2.39 million in 2011, according to previous filings.

Exxon said that about half the bonus will be paid in cash by year-end and the rest paid later through units that can be converted to cash based on a formula tied to cumulative quarterly earnings per share.

To me the reality is there is much more than money that separates "the many from the few". Money is only one measure of a person's worth, and perhaps not the best measure.

How wonderful to be given bonus and stock that are worth much more than this 'humble' executives salary. What is even more incredible is that the stockholders had no say at all in setting either the 6$ salary increase, the bonus, or the stock gift.

He EARNED an engineering degree. He EARNED a job as an engineer at Exxon the year he graduated from the University of Texas. He WORKED endless hours at Exxon to EARN promotions. He SACRIFICED time and WORKED the extra time to climb the ladder, SACRIFICING time with his family and friends. He has since continued to keep Exxon profitable, employing thousands and working to ensure that many more thousands of Americans and others around the world had a secure investment in their retirement funds. Outside of all that WORK, he did find time to serve as president of the Boy Scouts of America and director of the United Negro College Fund. In one year, 2011, as CEO of Exxon, Mr. Tillerson and the ExxonMobil Foundation provided $278 million in charitable contributions worldwide, $120 million of that was dedicated to education.
