The Associated Press

IRVING, Texas — Exxon Mobil Corp. is raising CEO Rex W. Tillerson's salary 6 percent to $2.72 million on Jan. 1.

The oil giant said Tuesday in a regulatory filing that Tillerson will also get a bonus of $4.59 million and 225,000 shares of restricted stock.

Tillerson's 2012 salary was $2.57 million, which was up from $2.39 million in 2011, according to previous filings.

Exxon said that about half the bonus will be paid in cash by year-end and the rest paid later through units that can be converted to cash based on a formula tied to cumulative quarterly earnings per share.

Dr. Pep,

Seems that you only think money, or how much one has/makes, that differentiates the many from the few.

To me the reality is there is much more than money that separates "the many from the few". Money is only one measure of a person's worth, and perhaps not the best measure.

MidNJ, many work hard as football coaches as well yet few of those coaches work their way up to million $ contracts as well. What do you suppose differentiates the many from the few?

"Many work as hard as Tillerson (and harder), spend hours studying for engineering degrees, and have to work 2 or 3 jobs in order to make enough money to put gas in their cars.

And, yes, some are boy scout leaders too. Still does not = his pay increase."

That's your opinion and you are entitled to it. I suspect that you don't think this is "fair" for some reason.

could/would anyone do the CEO job as well or better than Rex Tillerson for less compensation...

and a good question as NHLiveFree asks "How many times what the average Exxon employee earns [does Tillerson make]???" time to look at current Exxon Mobil financial/salary data...

The top 0.1 % is well taken care of. How wonderful to be given bonus and stock that are worth much more than this 'humble' executives salary. What is even more incredible is that the stockholders had no say at all in setting either the 6$ salary increase, the bonus, or the stock gift.

What did he do MidNJ??

He had aspirations MidNJ. He EARNED an engineering degree. He EARNED a job as an engineer at Exxon the year he graduated from the University of Texas. He WORKED endless hours at Exxon to EARN promotions. He SACRIFICED time and WORKED the extra time to climb the ladder, SACRIFICING time with his family and friends. He has since continued to keep Exxon profitable, employing thousands and working to ensure that many more thousands of Americans and others around the world had a secure investment in their retirement funds.

Outside of all that WORK, he did find time to serve as president of the Boy Scouts of America and director of the United Negro College Fund. In one year, 2011, as CEO of Exxon, Mr. Tillerson and the ExxonMobil Foundation provided $278 million in charitable contributions worldwide, $120 million of that was dedicated to education.

Mr. Tillerson has certainly earned it! We should all aspire to reach these goals instead of the jealousy that abounds today.

Oil and gas have been way overpriced for the past nine years so Exxon can afford to pamper their execs and bombard the TV stations with a barrage of untruthful commercials of how wonderful Exxon Mobil is. YUCK.

They squawk that it costs more to refine oil and raise prices, then report highest earnings regularly followed by $4.5 million in bonuses on top of a raise. Wonder how much gas will go up on this news?
