NEW YORK — Worries over the looming “fiscal cliff” and the health of the U.S. economy are driving oil prices lower Tuesday.

Benchmark crude is down 94 cents to $88.15 just after 10 a.m. in New York.

U.S. lawmakers have less than a month to reach a compromise to avoid a series of sharp tax increases and spending cuts that take effect in January. And on Monday, there was a sign that the failure to reach a deal is having a concrete effect on the economy.

U.S. manufacturing shrank in November to its weakest level since July 2009, the Institute of Supply Management said, brought on by the impact of Superstorm Sandy and worries over the fiscal cliff.

Discovery02, I agree with your post;

"The Fiscal Cliff is just one symptom of the real problem which is a dysfunctional Congress which, if these guys were in the private sector, would've been fired for inefficiency long ago."

Well said!

Republicans should let Obama take us over the "fiscal cliff" and pin the economic collapse on the Democrats. Their biggest mistake was the timing. The cliff should have been set for last year, so the public could react in November.

Have you noticed that the media believes that America would not exist without the professional politicians and government? Hopefully it will not be to late to save a little of America when the masses snap out of their brainwashed stupor.

Maybe also due to the higher production cited in an article just above this one.

You do not want a Gov without checks and balances or we get marxism from the democrats. I never see dems compromise, it is only republicans that bend to the democrat marxist views.

.
First there is no Cliff, just something made up by the Dumbocrats to create a FALSE Crisis.

Second they are no tax cuts that are expiring or tax breaks, as taxes were never cut, their amount was adjust temporarily which is stupid, they should have been permanent adjustments that should have needed completely new laws to adjust again which would make sure the Dumbocrats couldn't create another false crisis!

If the tax cuts expire, we will not use the "surplus" to pay down any debt. We will go deeper in debt with a new stimulus. Elections have consequences while the murder of four Americans in Benghazi, it seems, does not.

Forward.... into the abyss...

We need to let the tax cuts expire and start paying down our national debt. Sure it may hurt, but I would like to have a country for them, instead of a bankrupt one! Then let the oil prices fall as they may!
