You don't need a new law to ticket someone for distracted driving. Texting, talking, eating, putting on make-up, driving with your dog in your lap...they're all likely to cause the same problem. So why not just use the existing law to combat the texting phenomenon?

Whatever, there are laws against stealing, murder, rape, battery and arson... and funny how the laws do not stop people from still doing it.

It is banned in a lot of places. However, will it be enforced?

What a joke. Distracted driver fine $15? That's not even a slap. That's the cost of a decent meal.

It doesn't say they budgeted more money for the cops to begin patrolling for pizza-eating and texting drivers. Oh no, they can just work that in with their lax schedule because there's no crime that needs to be fought, right?

Only learners are banned from talking on a cell? What sort of insane goofy law is this?
Jail time for EVERYONE--that's the only way. Yeah, I have a cell phone, just not when driving. Disagree? Fine, don't come whining when your whole family is crushed to death/decapitated when some trucker with a load of steel pipes on the road for 18 hours and busy texting his girlfriend runs over their car, okay? Or when some teenager talking on a cell slams into you at a red light leaving you a paraplegic. Or some real estate agent doing a deal backs out of a driveway and runs over your daughter on her bicycle.
As fall as the steel pipe and decapitation story, yes--that did happen locally. Car stopped in its own turn lane, signalling a left turn, and trucker drifting along at speed. They never stood a chance even with seat belts and airbags.

Makes it more dangerous. More of an effort is made to hide the fact that you are texting.

What about driving with your eyes closed? Under this ban, that is still perfectly legal?
No bans are needed. Just enforce the existing laws on distracted driving.
