Automakers have answered new fuel economy requirements and increased consumer demand with some lofty mpg claims. But it seems some of these claims have been a little too high, at least on paper.

they rarely do with the way most people drive.
I easily get better than EPA estimates if I drive nicely.

.
Ford hasn't done anything nor made ANY claims, they are the numbers the EPA came up with! One more reason to get rid of the EPA once and for all!

People said the same thing about the 2010-2012 FFH and I was able to get upwards of 55 MPG on average with my FFH. It all depends on how you drive it. The average person will drive very aggressively and expect it to meet the EPA estimates while they should just be thankful that they are getting 40 MPG. If they were driving a regular car they would likely be getting in the upper 20's.

I have a 2012 Camry Hybrid and get 41mpg in all around driving. I wouldn't expect the Fusion to be much higher. I know Ford approaches the hybrid drive a little different than Toyota but there is only so much you can do without hurting performance or dropping the weight significantly.

Isn't the well thought of EPA investing these claims?

If BO wasn't overstepping his authority by dictating that car manufacturers meet certain fuel efficiency standards, perhaps they wouldn't be erring in their estimates. This is not to exonerate automobile makers, but if we were to confine the FED to only their Constitutionally delegated powers, most of our problems would be vaporized overnight.
