Buyer interest in new Hyundai and Kia vehicles may be softening following the South Korean automaker's admission that it inflated its gas mileage on several models, data from auto research website Edmunds.com indicates.

The website's finding is based on what it considers to be people logging onto the site with "purchase intent" for specific models over the past three months. It says purchase intent is "a metric for measuring a model's share of consumer demand."

Natural reaction. This does not change Hyundai's reliability.

So for all those who say this was deliberate or intentional act, where is the proof of that?
Also, when will all the other makers who claim these mileages that don't get them be scrutinized?

'Several models'? Try 'just about every single model they make' and not an 'oopsie error' but a deliberate act. Couldn't happen to a nicer company IMO.

No kidding!!! Mistakes happen, nothing is perfect. But when a company is caught deliberately lying, it effects "trust". I am sure Toyota took a hit in sales when it was making the "floormat" excuse.

Rightfully so. If they try to gain sales thru lies then they deserve what they get,( in this instance less sales).

Lying and apologizing when caught. Toyota doesn't have a problem with it according to all the recalls.

Lesson learned for Hyundai and Kia. They shouldve realized that sooner or later someone was going to find out.

They should be losing customers and they should compensate the people that bought their cars because of the mpg claims.

Hyundai and Kia = cheap Korean garbage aimed at the ghetto and welfare markets. Their cars are junk. Remember the horrid Hyundai Excel of the '80s? Yoikes, what a beater!

While Hyundai and Kia have come a long way over the years it still doesn't exuse overstating the mileage because now the public is untrusting.

Then again, the drop in interest may be unrelated.

The article uses one source to determine that buyer interest in SOME models of Hyundai and Kia have dropped. There is no data to indicate why it dropped. But author assumes that it's due to the MPG problem.

Has interest in competitor's offerings grown? Can't tell from reading this.

Are sales actually down? No data here.

Shoddy reporting.
