Don't trust it. I would drive myself instead of having a robot drive.

Drivers around here are nothing to brag about. They seem to be bored with driving responsibilities so they are doing everything except paying attention.

It does sound like a great idea, but the reality is that security is almost always an afterthought, or buggy, and there will always be malicious individuals seeking to take advantage of that.
On the good side: Automated cars, cooperating with each other, will be able to travel faster, merge politely, avoid congestion, reduce accidents, allow us humans to get more work done, or get more sleep, among other benefits.
On the bad side: Some will "mod" their car to make it less cooperative, and more obnoxious - like they are in human form. Worse: Someone else will hack the control system, and, during morning rush, when there is a pack of a thousand cars, speeding along at 100 mph, turn a car hard left from the right lane, causing carnage. I won't even go into the computer problems that could cause trouble.
So, count me among those who fantasize about how nice it would be to say, "car, take me home" and drift off to sleep or some other activity, but knows that the reality is too perilous to ever take that chance. My hope is that the automated cars will be restricted to their own roadways, so that I can avoid the disaster that I guarantee will come.

Sure they have allowed some partial electronic controlled vehicles on the road already. Some use on some roadways with auto drive. The Gov. will allow anything sometimes until it backfires. Why should they care it's just population control. Getting too crowded in the USA & on the Earth anyway, right?

Not with all the recurrent electronic failures. electronics can assist but you always need a human to interpret & make corrections for errors or failures. It always happens. I've worked with some of the most sophisticated computer systems available since 1972. Redundancy helps but they will always have a falt somewhere at some time, Just like we humans. Yet they may do some things better for awhile, but not all things all times.
Consider this, why don't we let computers land & take off airplanes? Too risky that's why. Why do $150 million + or - Military aircraft crash, like the F-22 despite the most advanced technology by the best companies known.
How about all the auto recalls, like cars accelerating out of control, etc, etc. Somebody has to be monitoring the controls. They hire people in the factories to watch the gages & alarms when something malfunctions.
There are programming errors. Random unexplained glitches & electrical power variations that cause mishaps along with component failures. Yes use the surveillance equipment but don't rely on it totally.

If GPS systems are any indication I doubt a robot (computer with GPS) will be better than a human.
