This is a no brainer. Western Canada is where most of the oil and gas (plus other minerals, etc.) are and that's where the money has always been. Ontario is rich in industry but that isn't something that effects fuel prices. As for the Maritime Provinces, they have traditionally always had to pay more than the rest of Canada for everything, not just fuel.

GasBuddy's are well aware of similar price disparities in the US market as well.

They love to gouge Canadians cuz we're so passive. We just pay it and bicker amongst ourselves, shake our heads and that's about as far as it goes. Eastern or western Canada - we all pay more for gas than you folks do in the states.

That is probably because they have to get their crude from the North Sea where the prices are higher than Western Intermediate Crude. It would behoove the Canadians to pipe the Crude from Alberta to the East Coast for refining where they have a market in need. They are probably worried that fellow Canadians could not be gouged as much as the Chinese.

When prices rise here, unannounced, they usually go up by 3 to 9 cents/l. Naturally the prices don't decline nearly as quickly. Changing from litres to U.S. gallons (roughly), multiply by 4. How many Americans would be upset by an overnight hike of, oh, 36 cents per gallon?
Saying: "Well we don't have much choice...we need gas..." as I hear so often on Canadian news clips, is frustrating.
Dammit, most of us are mad, so let's start showing it when we're lucky enough to be interviewed. Enough of this civility and submissive attitude. It doesn't help at all!

Not only crude... more likely, there's a gas cartel responsible for gas prices manipulations
