For such a popular car the Toyota Prius gets very little love among thieves.

Criminals are generally very stupid so they would not want an intelligent car like a Prius.

Guess the thieves like cars that are built here instead of 100% built in Japan.

It seems that theft also relies heavily on supply and demand.

If there is not a market for the parts that make up a Prius after a visit to a chop shop, that should tell you something about the Prius.

I suspect that the lack of a black market for recycled [arts is the main reason for their not being stolen. As more are bought I aspect this will change. This will not affect me since they are way to expensive to buy new or even fairly new. By the time they get old enough to be available on the used car market at am affordable price, the cost of a replacement battery may still rule them out as a financially sound purchase.

car theives want cars that look alike not distinctive cars.
car thieves want an easy heist and an easy sale but are not concerned about gas mileage.

All this means is that we need another government program implemented to help raise environmental awareness that targets the thieving community. Maybe a thieving community organizer could come up with some plans...

That's an interesting statistic. They certainly have been the most popular hybrid. That should mean lower insurance rates then for Prius owners.
