This shows there are a few bad apples in every company, no matter what their size and revenue.

Sounds like Canada need to put some Consumer Protection laws in place. If they don't...this highway robbery will go on forever!

I agree that virtually all of those companies would do the same.

It's always the disgruntled ex-employees who come forward after the fact; it was all fine and dandy when they were employed and helping to rip off their customers!

Another case of business fraud. Fine the employees (CEO & Managers) responsible. Make them pay. And 6 months of community service... cleaning trash along the highways every weekend. This would put a stop to crap like this.

Always protect yourself when renting anything.
Pull out your smartphone and do a full circle taped video or take snapshots of the item before pulling out of their parking lot. Your evidence will protect you and is admissible in court.

I think they must be franchised, because I've had good experiences with most Budget locations and bad experiences with only one.

This has to be a franchise because Corporate stores don't do this at most big companies.

It's not just Budget that pulls this BS. Enterprise tried to make me pay for non existent hail damage. It took quite a while but I finally got them to drop the charges.

Budget used to be my favorite rental car carrier and I have never had any problems with them, but the reports of their scams are so widespread that it's hard to ignore that renting a car from them may end up being a risky move for me at this time. All I can say is that the competition out there will be more than happy to take some of Budget's customers away.

Honesty and fairness are the best policies. Too bad Budget Rent A Car declined those policies and acted like your typical Democrat and Republican politicians.

It is the corporate culture, even here in the US. Thieves, liars and cheats.
Several years ago I rented a car in Nashville. The weather was turning bad - snow and ice expected. Tennessee is not used to severe snow and ice like we are here in oHIo - and don't cope with it very well - so I decided that I would not leave MY insurance company on the hook if I crashed the car or someone else hit me. I took the insurance - - with out a deductible..
I was stuck in the mountains for 4 days because of a big ice storm.
I didn't crash the car. No one else ran into me..
I got my moneys worth tho.
When I dropped the car off they asked me "any damage to the car"? I said yep. A tree limb fell on it. Smashed the hood, cowl, both fenders, dinged the roof pretty hard and cracked the windshield. A manager and two or three others RAN out to look at the car. They were ALL ready to take all my insurance info - you should have seen their faces when I reminded them that THEY were THE insurance company on this one!!!
If we had not moved the cars my brothers nearly new PERSONAL car would have been the victim. As it was, the limb slid down my hood and a big branch poked out one of his tail lights..
