“We are running out of fossil fuel”. I’ve been hearing this for a while, and it has created a sort of panic all over the world. Tendency is to believe that this is happening in the next few years... But is it true?

Who knows? It seems like new technology has pushed "Peak Oil" off into the future.

With new drilling and production techniques we got lots and lots. Get over it.

I sure hope so. I hope we wake up just in time before we all choke to death on the fossil fuel exhaust to realize that it is just not the way to go both environmentally and economically.

Didn't we run out of oil in the 70's?????

Seriously, WTF happened?

I'm so sick of being disappointed. Then there was the Y2K thing. Nothing!

Now we have the Mayan Calendar? 2012? Is the world going to end?!?!

PLEASE! Somebody, make the doomsday happen!

Well before we need to worry about running out of fossil fuels, we'll be seeing the prices go even higher as the extraction becomes even more difficult and expensive. The increased cost of extracting oil that's harder to get to and process is already a major factor in today's higher prices, and it'll only get worse.

New fossil fuel reserves are being discovered all the time. Technology continues to improve in SAFE extraction capabilities and efficiency of combustion. There is plenty of time for "green" energy technology to be developed in a truly marketable form--without government coercion of industry and the people.

Many moons ago I vaguely remember that the early-to-mid 90s were to be the end of oil. Hmmmm, methinks not. Possibly abiotic. And the Saudis are laughing all the way to the bank...

Fossil fuel will end one day or in next century, but don’t worry. Energy apocalypse won’t be permanent situation; natural gas will be next step in a new energy in about another 4 – 8 years.

Many articles this year have said we have ample supply, including a great article in the Wall Street Journal several months ago.

Oil will be prohibitively expensive much sooner than 54 years from now. Oil has more than tripled in the past 10 years, despite the worst world-wide recession in almost a century and despite all the new oil finds. We can't count on natural gas to help out. The relatively low prices are temporary. Demand will catch up soon enough.

But....but...but...

...they're scared. We need to coddle them and soothe their fears by inflicting as much pain on our economy as possible. There, there...all better now.

Fossil fuels are a finite product. How finite is debateable, but why risk the inevitable loss of supply and find a renewable source?

how about some common sense: we're using fossil fuels quicker than they
are being created. even my grandson can understand this. and he will be
part of world that has to deal with it.

The following paragraph in the article says it all.

"Fact remains that reserves of oil and natural gas did not decrease in the past 50 years, but instead they have been increasing."

It is not just a question of running out of fossil fuels. It is more the case of using renewable energy that will be more friendly to the environment.
