I would not characterize Hyundai's misclaim on its vehicles' fuel economy as " the most extensive overstatement of fuel-economy ratings ever." As I recall, most of the claimed mileage for its cars were only one or two mpg better than the actual number.

Bought an Elantra in May. They overstated there estimates one mpg per gallon. I am going to get a gas card for about $18.00 because of this. Do not think this will effect Hyundai in the long term

It looks like Honda has made an effort to rework its upcoming models, getting gas economy back up and quality up as well. But Toyota, with its Prius, may still be the leader of the pack.

I doubt this will have any negative influence on anyone but the EPA!

What I've been wondering for awhile now is - how much MORE mpgs could these cars get if they'd not be so luxurious. I mean does the car need to be better than my house?
I don't need leather. I don't need plush seats. I don't need every gadget available. I don't listen to what CR has to say about a car. It all media hype about what CR had to say. Is the car any LESS becuase of the review - NOPE! And I have NEVER owned a Honda, but I'll bakc it just because of the CR reivew against it!
Take some of the FLUFF of these cars, and get the cost down, screw the CR reviews and MAYBE you'd sell more.
Does anyone remember the early '80s Civic, yet it sold BECAUSE it was cheap and reliable and high mpgs!

But Honda will handle it like a Pro and (hopefully) not do a Touchdown Dance. Like Walter Payton used to say, "Act like you do it everyday".

Competition is always good and drives companies to seek new, better technologies.
Just as long as they do it honestly and don't twist and lie about the facts!

Honda should be very happy, but if one company is overstating its energy ratings, could Honda been overstating theirs too. Wonder if EPA will investigate Honda.

Competition on who can increase the mpg is great. Add in gas price wars and the average American may actually see a noticeable benefit.
