Looking at the Deklb website, they have 45 verities. Add to that AgReliant Genetics, Burrus Hybrids, Dow AgroSciences, DuPont Pioneer and Monsanto.........

What type of corn is dependent on the local soil and weather conditions.

If you live close to a field, drive out there in the fall and strip the husks off of an ear. You will see that it is not sweet corn. If you can find the landowner, he may tell you the specific seed he planted.

Go down the road 5 miles and ask the next producer and you may get a different answer.

stickyvalves asks "How many different types of corn do you know of".
Most people only know of three - sweet corn, corn meal, and pop corn.

We should let some of these people try to analyze the many types of corn. Might be an interesting read.

#2 Yellow is the answer to the original question. Over the past few years seed producers have engineered strains specific for ethanol production to increase ethanol yield.

"It is a starch that quickly breaks down into sugar. Sugar is the fuel of cancer. "

Actually, glucose, the predominate sugar in corn syrup, is the substance consumed and, also, produced in the human body that keeps you alive. If consuming "sugar" is carcinogenic, you have made an astounding discovery.

The truth is that corn is not even a very good food. It is a starch that quickly breaks down into sugar. Sugar is the fuel of cancer.

"Most people do not know to difference between yellow dent corn and sweet corn."

Sweet corn would have dents in the kernels too if it was left in the field till October or November to dry out, the dents mean nothing. That being said, field corn is not the same as sweet corn which we eat, but field corn is used to make corn meal, corn oil and many other food products. Field corn can be eaten if caught very early and it would fool most people into thinking it was sweet corn.

It is not sweet corn. It is regular field corn. It is still used in foods, but not as a food you eat without processing and added to other products.

In today's production, it's not "just field corn". So many varieties are available to the producer.

But it is not sweet corn humans eat. Though at the right moment, it can be very good to eat. At least it was 30 years ago when we picked it in the field next to our house on the edge of town!!
