The spread, or price difference, gained 13.36 cents to 50.48 cents a gallon. Ethanol imports have averaged 19,000 barrels a day this year, up from 8,000 a year earlier, the Energy Information Administration said July 3. Stockpiles last week declined 5.2 percent to 15.4 million barrels, the lowest in records going back three years.

“Ethanol spreads continue to be well-bid on Wednesday’s DOE stock draw, but traders are expecting substantial imports on the next report,” said Justin Dirico, manager of the biofuels desk at Eagle Energy Brokers LLC in New York.

The lowest price I am seeing right now is $2.17 in Minnesota. Any station that is charging $3.09 is just gouging.

I'm not seeing that here. 87 Octane (E10) is $3.29/gal and E85 is $ 3.09. E10 is the better value here.

I'm seeing more of a spread in Indiana where small gas station chains carry E85.

Ethanol’s Discount to Gasoline Widens as Corn Prices Plunge
"Ethanol’s discount to gasoline widened as corn fell to a three-year low, signaling lower production costs to make the biofuel.

The spread, or price difference, expanded 0.74 cent to 93.96 cents a gallon after corn, the primary ingredient in U.S.- made ethanol, touched the lowest level since August 2010. One bushel makes at least 2.75 gallons of the fuel additive."

There is no price spread where I am. In fact, sometimes I can get e10 for less than e85. What is up with that?

The greater the price difference, the more money I save blending ethanol in my non-FFV.

Does this spread include the 2.5% import tariff?

Lower price on the commodities market and some of the RFS credits are being passed onto the consumer. Place I get mine from has been consistantly $1.20/gal less for months now.

Any idea of what's driving this growing price spread?

I hate ethanol as an alternate fuel, and I hate that my MN taxes provide a subsidy to ethanol. Lets just dump it.
