Because they CAN.

Do you have any say? Well to some degree, you do. Next time you need a new or used car, Get a flex fuel vehicle and try some E-85. At current price spreads, you are looking at a comparable costs per mile :)

Plus FFVs on E-85 last longer because the ethanol is better for the engine and fuel system.

Rising gas causes your food bills to skyrocket too because 60% of the price at the grocery store is transportation costs!

Fight back against inflation and food costs with ETHANOL!

"David Pimentel and Tad W. Patzek used incorrect numbers in their so called expert opinion."

An understatement for sure. Patzek and Pimentel never did have any credibility.

David Pimentel and Tad W. Patzek used incorrect numbers in their so called expert opinion.

"Ethanol has a positive energy balance – that is, the energy content of ethanol is greater than the fossil energy used to produce it – and this balance is constantly improving with new technologies."

On the other hand, gasoline has a negative energy balance. Does this mean you going to stop using gasoline?

Ethanol Myths and Facts

One of few Ethanol production by-products is called the distillers grains.

You won't save any money. An E85 car gets 3-5 less MPG that a gas car. You'll fill up more often, it's more difficult to locate stations that have E85. There are only 10 stations in the DFW area (according to the Department of energy website)

Ethanol is made from corn. Corn is food.

It's not free energy. It takes 1 acre of corn to produce 330 gallons of ethanol, which is then diluted with 15% gasoline.

Ethanol production requires burning non-renewable fossil fuels to plant, grow, and harvest the crops and operate refineries. A Cornell University agricultural expert says that, considering the energy costs of growing corn and converting it to ethanol, it takes far more energy to produce ethanol than it yields.

However, it is great for boosting octane in very high horsepower engines. Typically, they can see a 10-15% increase in horsepower, with a corresponding drop in fuel economy, by using E85.

My Silverado gets 12 MPG on E85 and 17 on 87 octane gasoline.
