The one station I saw today, a Thornton, it was $2.49 or still two cents more than E-10. But down from $2.99 a couple weeks ago.

The local network of BP stations are still maintaining E85 at $1.00 less than reg. 87. This puts the price close to $1.50/gallon and finally makes the difference in mileage worth it.

Still $2.69 at Thornton, which is now 12¢ over E-10.

Speedway still sets it for a fixed discount from whatever the station's selling E-10 for. But that discount has just dropped from 30 to 20 cents at Illinois stations.

We have only one E-85 station in the area, it's a Valero. Last time I went by, the E-85 was only $0.10 a gallon less than the E-10.

Dropped 30¢ at Thornton as ethanol prices have eased. Now it's only 6¢ more than E-10.

Since I do own and this is my 5th vehicle that is flex fuel their is a difference; in the type of fuel to choose for the drive. Make a plan and then decide. When traveling long distance meaning more than 100 miles; like when I travel to the cabin up north it's okay to use E-85. You don't lose performance of the vehicle but you use about 2% more of E85 on the tank than you would with regular gasoline. For the most part I choose to use regular unleaded than E85. I think with the colder climate that we here have in Minnesota the vehicle uses more of the E85 especially when idling. But I'm just one person and I've been using E85 since 1998 and I'm okay with using it. The current price here via near my home price for E85 is $2.35 which isn't to bad I have to say. I'd call that decent.

Earlier today in North Aurora, Illinois, the Chicago suburb with possibly the highest concentration of E85 retailers per capita...

Speedway (Randall and Oak)
E85 $2.379
E10 $2.679/2.879/3.079

Speedway (IL-31 and Sullivan)
E85 $2.429
E10 $2.729/2.929/3.129

Thorntons (same IL-31 intersection)
E85 $2.999
E10 $2.729/2.929/3.129

Woodmans
E85 $2.799
E10 $2.679/2.809/2.959

Price spreads sure have changed quickly and significantly over the past month or so. I can only imagine what these prices will do to E85 retail sales over the short-term and prices over the long-term.

As long as gas continues to be down to current levels, ethanol producers will have a hard time marketing E85. Just the way it is.

As of noon today the wholesale price of a gallon of RBOB gasoline in Chicago was 1.6337 while the cost of a gallon of ethanol in the same Chicago market was 2.600 a spread of .9663 meaning currently the ethanol in E-10 is increasing the cost of fuel 9.663 cents a gallon.

So the wholesale cost of E-85 in Chicago would be 2.455 while the wholesale cost of E-10 would be 1.730.

Had a 2014 M-B C300 FFV loaner for the past week...

chose to refuel with premium due to the narrow price spread at the closest Speedway (91 octane minimum specification for the C300) this week...

but I refueled with E85 just before I returned it and saved about $4.95. Good for me, maybe not so good for the next guy. :-/

Speedway, North Aurora (Kane County, west suburban Chicagoland)
E85 $2.399
E10 $2.699/2.899/3.099
