Pilou, did the fuel that you bought contain ethanol, and if so E10 or E85?
Did this gas station recently start selling E85 or E10?

In answer to SilverStreaker: I posted it in this section because... 1 - I did not know where else to post it and... 2 - This Montreal gas station advertises on serving Ethanol.

Why is this and the Ultramar topic posted in the "All Things Ethanol" topic? Neither of these say anything about buying an ethanol blend.
One of the benefits that we have seen by Minnesota requiring 10% ethanol in gasoline is that our gas tanks stopped rusting out. The ethanol keeps moisture from air out of the tanks.
Most gas station tanks in Minnesota have water detectors, according to the Minnesota Department Of Commerce, so water contamination is rare here.

This guy said he had the same problem at an Ultramar Station.
Sorry, I posted the duplicate of this, I will send a note to the mods.

Better yet go down and talk to the manager or owner. If there is that much water in their tank you arent the only one with that problem. I dont know if the stations in canada are required to have daily readings on the tanks but if the are most automated system tell how much if any water is in the tank, ask to see the printout. And to tomintx you are part of the problem in our society today instead of work things out sue sue sue....... get a life!!

50% water in a gas tank is not an accident. Someone put water in your gas tank. If you had a half-inch of water in the gas tank, that could happen with several years of condensation and perfectly clean gas. Anything more, and the engine would die immediately because it would pick it up.
If your wife filled up and drove a few miles before the car died, it could very well be that she had filled up with water. If the station was putting out 100% water, then you're not the only one with this problem. Sue the station.

Here is how I look at it, maybe your mechanic is trying to make a fast buck. An amount of 50% is very wild but I guess anything is possible. Why did you post it here, the only gas I ever had with water in it was back in 1970 in Pennsylvania on the turnpike.
