Here's an interesting game. I will start with a highway and the next person will name a city that the highway runs through. The following person will then name a highway that runs through that city. Then after that, another person will name another city that the highway runs through. Etcetera...

I'll do the first 3 to start off.

Visit Independence Hall, see the Liberty Bell and have a Cheesesteak sandwich!

And, if you want to impersonate the natives, boo Santa Claus! LOL

Cheyenne, WY

One of the lesser known facts about the city is that it is the home base for Union Pacific's historic fleet including 2 operable and one under restoration steam engines.

Let's make a visit to...

Frankfort IL, which is the terminus of West Sauk Trail, which ran just a block from the house where I grew up in Park Forest, IL. Park Forest was a village, started in the late 1940's, that was patterned after Levittown, NY. It is a suburb reminiscent of Bedford Falls (from the movie It's A Wonderful Life), where the houses were, mostly, small two bedroom/one bathroom ranchers, built for veterans, and around the town centerpiece, The Shopping Center (Park Forest Plaza--one of the first, large outdoor malls). Nice to remember during the Christmas season.

In high school, I was a statistician/gopher for our school's swim team.

One of our biggest rivals was in:
Towanda, PA

BTW, ColoradoPaPa, US 6 goes all the way along Cape Cod and ends at the tip in Provincetown, MA. (Provincetown has always been the eastern terminus for US 6)

From 1937 to 1964, US 6 was the longest US highway of all time running 3652 miles from Provincetown, MA to Long Beach, CA. In 1964, it was truncated to Bishop, CA where it still ends today. It is now 116 miles shorter than US 20, the current longest US route but is still over 3,000 miles.

Information was gleaned from http://www.usends.com

Back in my college days late 1940s, I dated a gal from Providence RI. Good looking redhead that I could have got serious about. But it was a one-way street. Just as well since the one I have now has been around for 62 years.

Hey, I did know the highway through Denver ends in Providence RI - US-6.

Been through Ely many times but never on US 93 nor ever stopped at the museum. Too bad because I'm a nut for railroad history. Read an article in a magazine years ago about how the track crew for Union Pacific had to stop trains several hours while they rerouted the tracks for a more gentle curve near Rock Springs, WY. Have stopped there and in Green River several times making inquiries but can't find anyone who remembers it. So my search goes on.

Now on the other hand, going back to Ely, all my travels through there have been on the loneliest highway,

US 50

On one trip, was going well over the speed limit but there was another car coming up on me even faster. As we went over a ridge, he passed me just as a cop came into view from the opposite direction. Sure was glad he passed me cause he's the one who was stopped and ticketed.

Have a good Thanksgiving.
