Here's an interesting game. I will start with a highway and the next person will name a city that the highway runs through. The following person will then name a highway that runs through that city. Then after that, another person will name another city that the highway runs through. Etcetera...

I'll do the first 3 to start off.

Been through Ely many times but never on US 93 nor ever stopped at the museum. Too bad because I'm a nut for railroad history. Read an article in a magazine years ago about how the track crew for Union Pacific had to stop trains several hours while they rerouted the tracks for a more gentle curve near Rock Springs, WY. Have stopped there and in Green River several times making inquiries but can't find anyone who remembers it. So my search goes on.

Now on the other hand, going back to Ely, all my travels through there have been on the loneliest highway,

US 50

On one trip, was going well over the speed limit but there was another car coming up on me even faster. As we went over a ridge, he passed me just as a cop came into view from the opposite direction. Sure was glad he passed me cause he's the one who was stopped and ticketed.

Have a good Thanksgiving.

Ely, NV

Home of the Nevada Northern Railway Museum.

One of the few places in the country where you can actually be the engineer of a steam locomotive!

Kalispell, MT

The gateway to Glacier National Park.

It was also used in the original Microsoft Trains Simulator as the terminus of a branch on the BNSF Marias Pass route.

AKAIK, the Kalispell branch is still in existence but is now served by a shortline operator.

These towns/cities have been too crowded. Shall we stop at a place where the 2000 population density was 5.3 persons per square mile? Ted

Was thinking of stopping in Green Bay but the Packers are playing in Minnesota today. Therefore, let's go on to

OshKosh B'Gosh, a manufacturer of overalls and children's clothing founded in Oshkosh, WI in 1895.

Back in 1953 when I was based at Langley AFB going through combat crew training, did a lot of touch and go landings at Richmond with a Douglas B-26.

Can we go to Hampton?

Tupelo, MS

I-22 is "brand new" and may not be signed consistently.

It's supposed to follow the same path as US 78 from Birmingham to Memphis.

A lot of what's now I-22/US 78 was just US 78. The Memphis end routing may not be decided.

I-44

The highway is mentioned in the 1975 Novelty Hit "Convoy" by C. W. McCall (pseudonym of Bill Fries)

Beginning of the 3rd verse:
"Well, we rolled up Interstate 44
Like a rocket sled on rails.
We tore up all of our swindle sheets,
And left 'em settin' on the scales."

In the second verse they had arrived in Tulsa, OK.

Both the Gallup company and Gallup, NM are named after people named Gallup, I don't think there's any connection.
