FOD - Foreign Object Debris are any kind of objects that can be found on aircraft runways (both on land and on aircraft carriers) that should not be there. They are dangerous because they can be sucked into jet engines and either cause engine damage or cause an aircraft to crash if it does get airborne. On the aircraft carrier I served on, before flight operations began, crew members would line up and walk the entire length of the flight deck looking for FOD.

JOLLY GREEN GIANT - a nickname for the HH-3 transport helicopter used primarily for combat search and rescue missions. They were unique because of the extra armor to protect the crew, fuel and systems, as well as a sealed hull for water landings. They also had weapons mounted for self-defense.

WART HOG - nickname for the A-10 Thunderbolt attack aircraft. Because it could fly low and slow, it is used to attack tanks and armored vehicles and installations, as well as to provide close air support for ground troops. Among pilots, it is known for its high rate of survivability because of its bullet proof canopy, the 1.5 inches thick titanium armor protecting the cockpit and aircraft systems, and its ability to remain airborne even with significant damage.
