Concertina Wire - barbed wire, with razor blades attached at regular intervals, that is coiled so that it can be stretched out like a concertina. In the field, it is used by the military to restrict enemy penetration.

P38 - an Army can opener. Between WW2 and the 1980's, Army troops going into the field were issued food stored in small metal cans known as K rations and C rations. To open these cans, P38's came with each meal. I still carry one on my key chain. There is a larger version of the P38 called the P51.

Hollywood Shower - There are times when military personnel need to conserve water usage such as when out at sea or out in the field. Therefore, they are taught how to take a shower by only turning on the water when they actually need it to wet their body and rinse their body. When they are lathering up and actually cleaning, the water is supposed to be turned off. Those who disobey this rule are said to be taking a hollywood shower.

After being used to taking 30 minute baths as a civilian, when I entered the military, I laughed when I was told they were about to teach me how to take a 3 minute shower using a minimal amount of water. I said that was not possible. Well I was wrong and they were right! Aboard ship, I followed this rule. But out in the field where we bathed in rivers, they gave us more time.
