New Cuyama
is a census-designated place in the Cuyama Valley, in Santa Barbara County. It was named after the Chumash Indian word for "clams", most likely due to the millions of petrified prehistoric clamshell fossils that are found in the surrounding area.

Ohm is the name of at least two populated areas in California. I'll go with the Ohm in Stanislaus County, near Vernalis. I suspect an electrical generating station was once there. "Ohm, Ohm, there's no place like Ohm," right Camsue?

Badger is an unincorporated community located in Tulare County. It has a population of 140.

Badger was featured in an early 1970s McDonald's commercial in which a Visalia McDonald's served the entire population of the town for $13. (Badger's population was probably smaller back then.)

Elk Creek has (or had) an unusual gasoline station where the pumps were supplied by an above-ground tank, perhaps so that no spills into Elk Creek itself would secretly occur. That high school enrollment increases when the elk show up!

D - Del Prado Bolsa in Orange County - today a part of Westminster. No elk there!

Kingsburg

One of the unique landmarks in the community is the Kingsburg water tower, which is shaped like an antique Swedish coffee pot. The Swedish immigrant heritage of the community is principally preserved with festivals. Kingsburg Swedish Festival, which is the biggest and most known festivals that bring people in from all over the country, is held annually during the third weekend in May. Activities include a Swedish pancake breakfast, a parade and the coronation of the Swedish Festival Queen.

San Jacinto, Riverside County; I was in FuriousFowl's territory this afternoon, and boy was Hurricane Norbert kicking up a storm in Riverside!! Wind (tumbleweeds blowing across 60 Freeway making cars swerve), hail, rain, and at least 2 inches of flooding on the roadways.

Vallejo, on the way to Napa. Not much quake damage noted in Napa, but downtown Napa got hammered. Yeah, saw the old building with tilted room, Pfeiffer House (rocks fell into street), the Bail Bondsman's crushed car, all the "famous" sites.

Walteria
is a region of the city of Torrance in southern California. It is south of the Pacific Coast Highway. Walteria’s namesake is Captain A. Richard Walters of Atkinson, Illinois. Walters moved to the rich farming area in the 1880s and built the Walters Hotel, a stagecoach stop, on the main road connecting the salt works in Redondo Beach with the harbor in San Pedro.
