Didn't he leave it to a nurse, "the busty number"? I remember that line, just not which time it was used.

I had a rear bagger rotary lawn mower that picked up the leaves ok, but you had to stop every two rows to empty the bag. With a bum back, bum hip, bum knee, and allergies to grass and dust, my doc has advised against me doing the lawn work. But in the 'old days', by the end of leaf raking season, we would have put out just about two hundred barrels and bags of leaves at the curb. Having trees surround your house is nice, but you pay a price.

No takers yet. Ok, I'll check back later, I feel a nap coming on anyway. The girls are snoring already and we've only been up for 2 hrs! Gosh!

Coop, we have too many large, adult Maples, Birch, Oak and whatever else those weedy looking trees are called, poplar I think, and not to mention the bushes to mulch. I tried it one year and it just can't be done. You'd probably end up with 6 inches of mulched leaves when all's said and done.

Around these parts, it's either cut your trees down (which some of the younger, new people on the block have done), or rake and bag, or as some do illegally, rake and burn...

I rake and bag, with the assistance of my lawn mower, my riding lawn mower and my electric and gas operated blowers! There's about 40 bags out to the curb, plus the yard waste container waiting since yesterday for pick-up. It happens like this every year! Great for the biceps! LOL

I don't "rake" leaves. I run the lawn mower over the yard and it picks up most of them. The rest I leave for the wind to blow away.

I'll have to think about who/whom.

tbucks, where was I? I was trying to teach my own child the joys of bagging leaves! Didn't work out well over here either...

Anyway, the yard is pretty much leaf free (the trees aren't though) and the girls got their walk! Me? I'm beat to the bone. So, here's another easy one.

Klinger bequeathed his mink coat that he got from a shrink in Seoul to whom? Or should it be to who? Oh well, you get the idea, right?

I'll check back in the am... Later

Jr., cannot find my "bucket o' questions" to select from. Would be greatful if you can do the next question.

BTW, this is a first ... people are actually lining up to rake my leaves! Where were you when my kids decided it wasn't all that much fun?!

Hmmm, 3rd in line, eh? I'm not sure this tired old body of mine can deal with three yards, but I'm willing to think about it... ;)

tbucks, if you have a question ready to rock and roll, post away! I'm just in from cleaning up the front yard and having a salad. I'll check back after I get the backyard cleaned up, and my girls walked... Later

Congrats to Jr. and Tbucks. So does that mean I can get third in line for help with raking, Jr.? Most of the leaves are still on the trees down here. I've mulched them once. And miles to go....

Ya'll have a great day. I'll check in for a new question soon. That was a good one!

Ooopss sorry - after re-reading the answer both Jr. and Tbucks got the answer correct.

Each payment in military script "is to be made in accordance "with regulation 7-9-7/9-4-J "ascertaining that each signature opposite each name "corresponds with each said pay "and in the event that there is a discrepancy in the aforementioned "in either an overage or an underage of funds you are wholly and only responsible.

So... either of you two fight for the next question.

Script remaining after everyone was paid? Or not enough script to pay everyone?

I'm about done with the leaves, maybe a third of them have yet to fall. So tbucks, it'll be a while before I can make it out your way, if ever... Oh, I don't whitewash! LOL

Enjoy!

Or is that each payee must sign his/her name, showing that he/she got paid?

Hey Jr, I have an extra rake. C'mon over and help with my yard, too! After that, I have a fence that needs whitewashing.

Ok, now we're getting somewhere. Script? I remember Hawkeye ended up with extra 'script' (pay) and I believe he gave it to Father Mulcahy's Orphanage. But that's what I posted (indirectly I guess) earlier. Hawkeye (or the pay officer) is responsible for the script. I guess I'm spinning my wheels here.

It's 70F outside and the yard needs raking. Leaves everywhere... Later

Signature is incorrect but you have something in your answer that is part of the actual answer.

How about a signature. Is it regulation that the pay officer sign for the script?

You are right there are 2 episodes but the one you're talking about coop is the Army regulation for when the pay was short and who got paid in what order. The answer I'm looking for the regulation for the pay office of the day.

I never got paid, so I don't really know. One of the requirements was that the paymaster had to know how to count.

RIP to Marcia Strassman, who played the recurring role of Nurse Margie Cutler (and also Gabe Kaplan's wife on Welcome Back Kotter). She was only 66.

I remember something about how to pay the people and Hawkeye had a bored look, as it was common sense. I don't remember exactly what it wss.

There were 2 episodes where the pay was short. In one, Potter told them to pay in descending order of rank, officers first. In the other, he said pay the enlisted first until it ran out. Margaret yelled "What about officers" and Potter responded "That's protocol". So there were conflicting procedures.

Not sure about that coop. I believe enlisted personnel paid the officers, and vice versa for the enlisted men/women. I seem to remember that Radar always paid the officers, I think...

Well so far... JR you have 1/2 the answer. Radar read Hawkeye the entire regulation and it technically consisted of 2 things. In the round about way Jr. fan was right in the he was fully responsible.

That's about all I remember too, Jr. I thinking this question probably comes from the episode where the goat ate the money? There are a couple of eps that deal with payroll. I'm thinking you have to be of a certain rank, perhaps a minimum of Captain, and that it has to run in some kind of rotation, i.e., you can't have it be the same person more than x times in a row where x may be as low a 1, and you can't claim to have lost it because you're responsible for making sure everyone gets paid. The only thing that makes me thing of the rank and rotation possibilities is that when Hawkeye did it, he had to. It was his turn. I'm thinking he couldn't fob it off on a lower ranking person because the paymaster had to be a certain rank or higher and everyone else who held that rank had already done it and/or was busy that day.

This is running strictly on memory after a 16 hour work day, some sleep, and with cold pizza for breakfast. Now, time to floss and get ready to attack another day. :)

It just dawned on me that I first came here to post an answer to the Squigmeister's query. But then the news. :(

After realizing my bad, I forgot to post what I came here to post. So...

I beleive the regulations mainly state that the paymaster (Hawkeye)(?) is responsible for everyone's pay.

We have a winner. Congrats, Squigy!

You're right too, Tbucks. That's the ep. Hawkeye was on R&R when Trapper got the orders to go home.

Jr., can't believe this because you are the grand master, and you are off by one episode in this case. This is from the first episode of Season 4, "Welcome to Korea." It picks up right where "Abysinia Henry" leaves off and to me is also a classic episode. This two-part episode is my favorite of all the episodes -- and thus always a good place to look for the answer if I'm up. I've watched it way more times than I could ever count. Second best place to look is any season 4 episode because that's all I have on DVD. Now all I need to do is get the DVD player fixed. Can't just toss it because this DVD is stuck in it. :)

Dang! I thought I had it!

tbucks, this was a classic episode. 'Abyssinia, Henry'. It was the 72nd episode and the final episode of season 3. You'll most likely know, this episode included Henry Blake's departure, also. One of my faves!

Who has the next question, Squigy?

He went home. Wasn't that the episode where Hawkeye was stuck in surgery, or away from camp, and was pissed because he didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Trapper?

He drove Col Blake's jeep on two wheels thru the middle of camp, around musical instruments, with Radar's Teddy Bear sitting in the drivers seat with a shower towel under his bottom.

Only thing I remember about Tuttle is....that they made him a DRUID.

Capt. Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce: [creating Tuttle's service record] Religion?

Army Capt. 'Trapper John' McIntyre: Atheist.

Capt. Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce: I don't believe in atheism. Let's make him a Druid.

Cpl. Walter 'Radar' O'Reilly: What's that?

Capt. Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce: They worship trees.

Cpl. Walter 'Radar' O'Reilly: Ah, a tree surgeon.

I was looking at tbuck's answer. Most of those tents had doors, and wood frames with the canvas thrown over. As a Naval Reservist, I was part of combat unit and our tents were just canvas, nothing wood but the poles.

I have no idea what Hawkeye says is different.
