with day time running lights, it's cruel and illegal to turn on your highbeams onto oncoming traffic.

ə i rarely flash lights because it creates a distraction.
pretty much the most my light switch gets touched while in motion is to signal a semi that has passed me that it’s safe to pull back into my lane. ə

I do this on long trips, but the day trippers and young ones have no idea what it means. They are distracted enough with phones, food and dancingb to music in the car

i would, but like a comment below, most people are on their cell phones. i assume they either dont know what it means, or just are not paying enough attention to care.

Occasionally, but now a days I see many people talking on their cell phones while driving, so I'm assuming that they don't pay attention to this, or they just have no clue on what this means.

No. Most drivers on the road today are totally clueless as to what that means. Also, if spot a speed trap I would rather someone else was getting the attention of the officer and not me.

People don't know what flashing headlights mean anymore - even to pass or for a car with headlights off.

From the poll results, this appears to be a common practice of the past that has gone by the way side.

Yes, but few drivers have a clue what flashed lights mean. People don't know what flash to pass means either. The majority of people driving today are clueless.

Yes, and other road hazards too like accidents, slow moving road users like farm equipment or bicyclists, disabled vehicles partly in the travel lane, or debris in the roadway. This is especially true for hidden danger areas like blind hills or curves. Speed traps are generally a hidden hazard.

Never. First, these are not speed traps. If you drive the speed limit, you will not have a problem.
Second, if you need to get some where at a certain time, leave earlier and, again, you do not have to speed.
Thirdly. the police do not make you speed, you do it yourself. It's your fault if you get stopped.

I used to try to warn people, but then I thought 'if they want to speed, thats their choice, and if they get caught, serves them right!!'

Always! I feel it gets people to slow down and protects people (Walking /driving) in the process while it saves everybody time and money.

For me, it usually depends on my mood and location. If I'm in an area you should definitely be going slow (school zone) then I don't. If I feel the speed limit posted isn't justified, then I will flash my lights to warn other drivers.

Cubbers24, why are you warning truckers? THEY are the ones who speeding should be a massive penalty! All that mass and momentum can kill. They should obey the speed limit, empty or full.

In Europe trucks are tracked. ONE mph over the speedlimit can cost them their CDL equivalent, which means their job. Speeding - even by 1 mph, is not tolerate.

Nor is elephant racing... where one truck is doing 54 and the other 55, so he decides to pass... taking about a minute or so to complete it. On the autobahn cars are coming at an average of 75 mph, so traffic backs up... all for one rude, inconsiderate trucker. So they made a law to eliminate those guys...

No. But when they should have their lights on, I will turn mine off/on to advise them. Many don't have them on under twilight/dawn conditions, or when weather dictates. Some vehicles blend into the background, those that are gray or black in color (or white ones when the background is snow).

Problem is most of the people "slow down" when I do, thinking I'm warning them of a cop. I ride a motorcycle and was in the military, so moved a lot. Flashing lights can mean a lot of things... cop ahead, your lights are off, or the worse one for a motorcyclists to misuse (depending on the area) - "I see you, but go ahead, I'll yield" when you aren't sending that message!!
