Please list yourself as a donor. Doing this does NOT affect any decisions that are made at the time of demise, but it does help the 100,000+ people on the organ transplant lists, some of whom may be your friends, relatives or neighbors! Not doing so is an act of selfishness.

Yes, If I can help someone else's loved one, why not. My family has never waited for a critical organ, however, we have someone to thank that helped our Father see out of both eyes as opposed to one.

GasMonc, it seems you live in a horrid black world, suspicious of everything.
I presume you have it written that you will also never accept a donor organ should your kidneys, lungs, or heart ever fail.

Organ donation is a racket. The thing is the doctors make a HUGE amount of money on it and the family of the victims get nothing and of course are victimized themselves by the death and the system often leaving them destitute and destroying their lives. Think of a young mother with kids who dies. Doctors make hundreds of thousands and the kids can't pay for college. Additionally they give perfectly young organs to people who are dying anyway, just so they can make money off of them. It is truly macabre. It is also very risky for people involved in accidents as you can never trust police these days.

I am an organ donor and I have been ever since I got my license at the very young age of 16 1/2. I always thought it was a kind thing to be able to do for other people who were in need. If I die I sure don't need the organ anymore.

Yes, anyone who is desperate enough to take these crazy organs can have 'em when I'm done. Which shouldn't be too long now. ;)

I had to look on my license to see. I use to have the 'pink dot' indicating I wanted organs donated. I don't have one now. Not sure when or if I changed my mind or if it got lost.
I wouldn't mind helping out another in need,I won't be using them once I am gone.

yes, because if my organs can possibly help several people then I am all for it. They won't be doing me anymore good when I'm dead.

No, because I am afraid that they will instead do this.

If I am in a situation where I am dying, they will see that I am an organ donor, and will let me die on purpose so they can use my organs to save other people's lives. :(

And I know that they will try with all there heart to save me if they don't see that I am a donor. I have alot to live for, and I want my life to be saved just as much as the person that needs an organ. But out of that fear I cannot. And I apologize to anyone who thinks I am being selfish, if I knew 100 percent that wouldn't happen to me, then I would be completly okay with it!

No. There is no doubt in my mind that by being an organ donor can lead to a premature declaration of "death". There was just a case in the news where a person awoke from apparent "death" just as doctors prepared to harvest their organs. It was a drug overdose case. She was declared dead. Surgeons were about to begin the process when she opened her eyes, saving her own life.

No.

In 1973 I received blood transfusions following a spinal fusion operation. I subsequently was diagnosed with Hepatitis C. I am medically forbidden to donate blood and/or organs to others. However, I was my own autologous donator of blood later for four more spinal fusions and two hip replacements. I would donate to others if I could do so.

" Did you read of the recent case of a woman who was on the operating table to have multiple organs removed when her eyes opened just as they were to make a cut."

You are about a million times more likely to be killed in a car crash, so if you are that paranoid, I suggest never getting in a car for the rest of your life.
You are probably a couple hundred thousands times more likely to be killed by lightning, so I suggest never going outside at all.

Out of all the "no" responses since this poll was opened, I've now seen exactly ONE with a good reason (due to medications taken). The rest seem to be fearful of organs being harvested (like they're wheat or something) before you're dead.

OH COME ON. Most of the stories of that happening to people are unsourced, unfounded rumor. It's happened and been documented in such few cases that I wouldn't even consider it a real issue.

So, yes, I'm a donor. And if by some odd chance they cut into me before I'm dead, then I guess that would be my time to go. But I know that would almost certainly never happen.

The rest of you who are saying no are a bunch of selfish cowards.

I have always thought it was important to be a donor. I am indicated as a donor on my driver's license. Why not save a life if you lose yours? You can give someone a better life who is so deserving of health and a second chance.

I am not registered as an organ donor. Did you read of the recent case of a woman who was on the operating table to have multiple organs removed when her eyes opened just as they were to make a cut. It turns out that doctors had ignored the warning of a nurse that her toes had curled indicating that she was still alive. It appeared to me that the doctors were so intent on salvaging her organs that they ignored the sign that she was actually still alive. Until it is 100% established that someone is really dead and this would be a definitive requirement, I would be fearful of indicating that my organs could be harvested.

Yes, it is very important to do so. Many people get a second chance on life. Not just one, but a lot of your organs can be used. Mt children (adults) are donors also.
