I drive a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE SEdan with a 4-cylinder engine. Since I started putting 89 Octane (mid-grade) gas, the car has a little more pep and gets on average two more MPG.

I drive a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE SEdan with a 4-cylinder engine. Since I started putting 89 Octane (mid-grade) gas, the car has a little more pep and gets on average two more MPG.

Of course he didn't find that out until AFTER he bought it to have a gas-saving second vehicle with his Ford F150...
spmaudio Champion Author Chicago Posts:3,748 Points:726,070 Joined:Jan 2009	Message Posted: May 14, 2013 10:13:51 PM Ignore spmaudio Report Abuse A few years ago I experimented with using 89 and 92 octane in my truck (2003 Toyota Tacoma, base model), and found that the increase in MPG was so small (maybe .2 MPG on average), that it was still cheaper to just stick with 87 octane. But, a couple people I know and trust have said they got a big improvement by using higher-octane gas in their vehicles (Chevy Suburban and Honda Civic).
