I track my car's fuel usage and would be interested to search for same vehicle and compare other user's data.

I wasn't really interested in seeing the entire fuel log for users (that would include stations and entries -- I understand the privacy issues there) but just the current MPG average. I understand there may be some variances but I think that would actually be helpful to give a range.

I think this would help people know if their car was working in good condition. For instance if my car was averaging 24MPG and I saw over 132 other users with the same model averaging 29MPG then that may indicate that something with my fuel/exhaust/engine is not operating in the expected condition. Though I guess this would require that users enter their engine as well since one model car may have several engines sizes.

Too many untracked variables in the logs to make aggregate data very informative for any user.

And, if data were to be aggregated, it would need to be done anonymously by GBO.

Sorry sonyisda1, I don't want you to be able to look at MY fuel log.

While seeing other mileages might be nice info, not knowing what kind of driving (e.g. city/hwy) they occurred under makes the info a bit unusable, outside of the best and worst averages possible.

Are you asking that all the Fuel Logbook information from everyone's vehicles be consolidated by Gas Buddy and that you're able to see what the average is for each vehicle (by year and model)? Realize that would be an effort on the part of Gas Buddy and wouldn't let you know about specific models of vehicles, nor understand the driving habits of those using the logbook.

Or are you asking that you be able to access everyone's logbooks and see their personal information? If that's what you want to do, I would have a lot of reservations about sharing that information even though it's innocuous. I simply wouldn't want other members to be able to access my personal information and, if they could, I'd probably stop using the fuel logbook and start using an off-line log. It would be different if you started a thread and said "I have a 1924 Ford Model A. Appreciate it if any other 1924 Ford Model A users would share their Fuel Logbook with me because "I'm interested in their fuel usage...including their their miles per gallon..." That said, you're not telling them - but you'd be able to - that you can see where they've traveled by virtue of their fuel logbook gas station entries.

The more I read the original post the less I like the idea of anyone being able to search Fuel Logbooks "across site". If you want to know what fuel economy people get, you can check on the Department of Energy's website for figures. They may not show real world (real Gas Buddy) figures from across the country (or across Gas Buddy's site), but I value some privacy.
