Some stations have generic gas pump icon, unlike BP and Shell.
How can this generic be replaced with a specific icon for the android mobile app?

Do you really expect anyone to believe that a 5 paragraph, 8 question response can be characterized as simply being inquisitive?

It would seem more cordial to politely ask the poster to explain himself a bit better; that is, if being friendly to new members is of any importance.

If the poster doesn't give any thought to what they post then they deserve the answers they get.

"...the poster may not have given much, if any, thought to the wording of his post"

If that's the case, and there was no thought to the wording of the post, then it's hard to precisely respond to the wording of the post. And because of that, I thought that my response was reasonable. It may have been inquisitive, but it certainly wasn't critical.

I read the OP as perhaps an owner of an independent gas station who would like his logo to appear on the app.

It may just be that this member was asking how he could personalize the GasBuddy app to his own liking? We'll probably never know now.

We seem to live in an age of personalization where app users prefer to customize the graphics and function of programs running on their devices. These types of questions come up from time to time here, and while the poster may not have given much, if any, thought to the wording of his post, it is nevertheless a harmless question from a potential new member.

What's missing? Patience and common courtesy come to mind. Anyone who takes the time to write an essay of questions and answers in a ranting tone, lacks at least these two attributes. Rather than expressing knee-jerk umbrage and taking the third degree questioning approach to what may be perceived as ill conceived requests and suggestions, wouldn't it be more hospitable to at least try to come off as helpful to new members?

It is more than likely that JoelSmith15, who recently joined this month, will not return to the forum to respond; and another 1/120 member will have been born in a somewhat self-fulfilling prophecy.

Those with the generic pump are what I would call "off brands". They could be independents of small convenience stores. There are not that many so I don't see it as a big deal.

Nope Gas Buddy, you aren't missing anything.

Gas_Buddy asks: Am I missing something that's obvious to everyone else?"

Yes.

The stations that have generic "gas pump icons" (unlike BP and Shell) are stations that are primarily stand-alone, single-owned/operated, and/or non-franchised stations; the non-generic "gas pump icons" identify stations that operate under the same name or under the same franchise identification.

Why would you want to replace the "generic gas pump icon" with something else? Are you suggesting that the non-associated gas stations (having nothing in common) have a one specific "gas pump icon" that's the same for all of them?

Or are you suggesting that each gas station provide Gas Buddy with something specific to identify them? Or are you suggesting that Gas Buddy give each un-associated gas station it's own individual "gas pump icon"?

If it's any of the above, why would you want to do that? If nothing else, it would have nothing to do with identifying gas stations for which you want to post prices (in part because no one would know what their "non-generic gas pump icon represented, whereas it's a quick identifier for, for example, BP and Shell). Or are you saying that it will help you in identifying gas stations for which you're posting gas prices (or intend to)?

Or do you have a different reason for wanting a specific icon for those stations that are un-associated with each other? Am I missing something that's obvious to everyone else?
