Since 90% of my entries are done while in my car (I either pull over to the side, or enter while at a red light). It would be easier and safer if we could use voice entry. My Smartphone already allows me to say, "Start GasBuddy". Now I should be able to say, "Get Favorites", which should bring up a numbered list. You could then say, "1" then say ,"regular 3.59", or "Diesel 3.99", then, when done, say "Enter", or "Done".
I'm sure there are better ways to do this, but this is just a quick idea.

Voice activation would be great or a "no price change" button to show there was no price change

Why would the app be complicated? It would need to have voice input/output added, but the app already has location tracking. The only hard part is finding the nearest station, and that could be done by local zip code. Voice input is getting surprisingly good.

As far as price, I don't think that charging for it would work. It'd just drive off business. A better approach would be to display ads, just like with the regular site.

"Just wondering, ldheinz, because this would be much more than your average run of the mill mobile app, how much would you be willing to pay for the app?"

I would expect to pay at least $4.

Your asking him how much he would like to pay to legally provide GasBuddy with the data GasBuddy needs? I know it is in your DNA to try to maintain the status quo but this is pretty ridiculous.

ldheinz:

"...I would like to have the app monitor where I am and allow me to enter prices by saying "Mobil" and have the app say the nearest Mobil station, and then I could say "regular" and the price, have the app read it back for verification, and then I could say "enter" and have the price entry done."

Seems to me like that would be a very complicated mobile app, something a lot more involved than, for example, asking Apple's Siri for help. You wouldn't be just asking for something or for something to be posted, you'd be asking for a specific and detailed search as well as inputting sequence. And it seems like it could lead to a number of errors in responding to voice commands, either frustrating the reporting member or leading to a lot of "Your app doesn't work...your app is useless" message posts, despite the problem likely being the member's commands or voice.

Just wondering, ldheinz, because this would be much more than your average run of the mill mobile app, how much would you be willing to pay for the app?

As it is now illegal to hold a smartphone while driving, I would like to have the app monitor where I am and allow me to enter prices by saying "Mobil" and have the app say the nearest Mobil station, and then I could say "regular" and the price, have the app read it back for verification, and then I could say "enter" and have the price entry done.

This suggestion has been added to the Suggestion Tracking List as a new topic on an existing subject.

The last I heard, app developers have no hooks for voice on the iPhone. Maybe other phones do.

On the Android app you can enter prices vocally.
