If I go to the "Map Gas Prices" page, select Fuel Type = Diesel, and Time Limit = All Stations, it shows me all the stations it knows about, with many shown as "OLD".

If I need to find a station that carries diesel, it would be much more useful if only those stations were listed. That way, even if nobody's updated the diesel prices for a while, at least I'd know where to go.

LarryMarg - You are not missing anything. You can not adjust to a longer time on the lists. You can on the map.

LarryMarg,

Are you using the app or the full site?

> Not if you have your default set to show all stations.

Sorry - perhaps I'm missing something. When I go to the price list, it shows me "Lowest Diesel Fuel Prices in the Last 24 hours". If I click on "Show Search Options" I get a drop-down, "Prices in the last <nn> hours", and I can select <nn> as being 4, 8, 12, or 24.

How do I have it show all stations?

(In case different GB sites have different capabilities, I'm at http://www.newyorkgasprices.com/index.aspx )

"But in this scenario, the price list provides even less information, because it only shows stations for which recent prices are known."

Not if you have your default set to show all stations.

But in this scenario, the price list provides even less information, because it only shows stations for which recent prices are known.

The goal here is to find the nearest station that carries diesel, regardless of price.

Note that, since it's been added to the suggestion tracking list, this topic is closed as far as I'm concerned. But I'm continuing the conversation to see if someone suggests an alternate way to get this information.

"But if I'm running on empty and need to find the nearest station that carries diesel (it seems as though only about 15% of those around here do) and can't afford to do a lot of running around, then right-clicking on each "OLD" station, selecting "Edit station info", and checking to see if Diesel is selected under "Station Features" might be a better interim solution."

There is no foolproof method. If you can't find what you want on the map then go to the price list.

scoutmaster,

"in the interim, wouldn't ignoring the stations that are marked OLD work"

That would work to tell me who sells diesel for sure (unless some bozo posted incorrectly :-) ). But if I'm running on empty and need to find the nearest station that carries diesel (it seems as though only about 15% of those around here do) and can't afford to do a lot of running around, then right-clicking on each "OLD" station, selecting "Edit station info", and checking to see if Diesel is selected under "Station Features" might be a better interim solution.

"scountmaster writes,
> Wouldn't it be as simple as just ignoring the ones marked OLD?

No, because it's useful to know where to find the diesel stations, including those whose price information is not current. Currently there's no distinction between "doesn't sell diesel" and "sells diesel, but price is unknown"."

I agree this should be fixed but in the interim, wouldn't ignoring the stations that are marked OLD work since it seems those stations don't sell the grade of gas or no price has been reported for the grade being searched?

Actually, as part of a long term improvement project of better linking/using the MSL data, I think it is a reasonable idea. And, I give kudos to CK to be able to rephrase it with no "cutesy" language or inappropriate lame attempt at humor.

Excellent suggestion. I also like CK’s paraphrase, which to me is a little clearer. I hope this can be implemented along with linking price posting to fuel types checked in the MSL.

This suggestion has been added to the Suggestion Tracking List as a new subject.

To paraphrase the suggestion and broaden it to all fuel types, the MGP map, when a given Fuel Type is selected and Time Limit = All Stations, should show OLD for only those stations that have as a feature the selected fuel type, else the station should not be visible.

If a station shows as old, that simply means that a price has not been reported in at least 96 hours. It does not mean that the station sells diesel If a price shows, that simply means that somebody has reported a price in the last 96 hours. It does not however mean that the station sells diesel. There have been many false reports for stations that do not sell diesel.

LarryMarg,

All the ones marked OLD in my area don't carry diesel.

scoutmaster - I believe that the ones shown as "OLD" are ones for which the database doesn't contain a recent price for diesel, regardless of whether or not the station actually carries diesel.

It seems the ones shown as "OLD" don't carry diesel but the ones with prices do carry diesel.
