How about creating a symbol for post office ? A Chapel Hill, NC area gas station has a a contract post office, but it is not described as being at the station.

Hi MDAJR,

Thanks for your suggestion, but unfortunately postal offices are not exactly the kind of pertinent feature we're looking for to include in our sites/apps. There are several other features that some stations will have that aren't included (ie. movie rentals, fireworks retail, liquor/off-sale, etc).

Though it may be convenient to have in GasBuddy, there are other resources that people can use to locate a local post office (such as the USPS Mobile app)

I'm not sure why we need earthquake jokes but can we get back on topic?

Or would we have the moderators move this to Off Topic so others can join in?

"the humor misplaced and poor."
Oh I don't know, I'm getting quite a few laughs from CK's posts lately! :-)

frankfurter - noun
a small, cooked and smoked sausage of beef or beef and pork, with or without casing; hot dog; wiener.

has nothing to do with a person. Frankfurter was named after a German town. Again, the asterisk is pointless and the humor misplaced and poor.

It's your totally unauthorized by Gas Buddy.com wiki! You should know what is and isn't included.

1st: I said frankfurter*, not hotdog.
3rd: If you know of any, please report them so that they may be added.

Can you perhaps explain your response to the original post in a different way? I, for one, don't understand your post.

1st New Castle, PA is the hot dog capital of the world, not San Francisco.

2nd the oink, oink heard during the 60's was in reference to the police.

3rd not all suggestion make the list even though CampKohler claims they do.

Read this!

The Suggestion Tracking List page consists of:
Version Description: The date and time and time zone of the start of the last editing of the list followed by the editor's GB nickname. Update for each version posted.
Backup Description: The date of the last copying of the wikitext editor view of the list, followed by the editor's GB nickname. (See file name format at the bottom.)
Index: The letters of the alphabet, each which serves as a quick link to some portion of the list.

GB: Why whatever do you mean? San Francisco has been long known as the frankfurter capital of the U.S. due to it's historic past as host to the hog-slaughtering industry in the 1800s. This fame was reflected across the Bay in the Berkeley cry. "Oink, oink, pigs!" heard in the demonstrations of the late 1960's. (All such enterprises have, of course, been long ago squelched due to their fragrant nature not being compatible with the yuppification of the city during the dot-com bubble.)

The STL is a list of links to all suggestions. If some were left out it would be a list of links to some suggestions, but not all*.

----
*If this was satisfactory, the same result could be achieved by putting in only one link, which would simplify list maintenance considerably. Of course there would be interminable arguments about WHICH single suggestion would be worthy. But, if the dust settles and everyone finally agrees, it would take less than one minute to code The List of GasBuddy Suggestion Worthy of Linkage. Perhaps a separate topic should be started where the merits of all suggestions may be discussed minutely and the list winnowed down to the one that deserves such enshrinement. I could start it for you... no, wait, SM is probably watching. Nevermind.

Gas_Buddy,

Everything is not added now! It think CampKohler's wiki is totally useless! It's a big jumble of stuff that is somewhat organized but has no structure. It's full of links to topics that have been removed, that are locked or are pointless like this one. On top of that, Gas Buddy could shut it down since CampKohler is using copyrighted images from this site in most of his screenshots. I doubt he got the correct permissions to use them.

I have no desire to start a list of my own. It's a waste of time much like most of the topics CampKohler starts.

CampKohler:

I doubt that scoutmaster thinks such a list is beneficial, but that said, I don't think in this case it's as much "Complain, complain, complain" as it is frustration that such a suggestion, which he obviously thinks is pointless, adds to the value of your list. Maybe, at least in his opinion, if you're going to have a list as you do, that not everything needs to be added to it just because it's a suggestion. At a certain point, quality might need to win out; after all, it's not apparent that the list is being used in any way (other than by the list owner) and maybe culling it would add value. But that's just an opinion based on the back-and-forth about the list over the last few months.

However, I do think that the "weiner" joke is in poor taste and should be deleted. And yes, I know, I've said the same about other "jokes" and have been told that I obviously/apparently don't get the humor. In this case I think the "humor", intended or not, is in poor taste. Especially in these forums.

As maxstar indicated, this website isn't a likely place that members would be viewing to determine the convenience of a post office especially considering that many contract post offices have limited hours of operations and/or limited facilities.

You might be better simply indication in the Station Notes section of the Master Station List any extraordinary facilities or conveniences a gas station has. You can update the Master Station List as soon as you have earned 10,000 points. Alternatively you can start a topic in the North Carolina discussion category requesting a local member update the station for you. If you do so, I suggest you provide a reason why, as a South Dakota Gas Buddy member, you're asking such a action for an isolated North Carolina gas station.

I seriously doubt if people visit this site to find out where a post office is. It would not make sense to create a symbol for every service a station might provide, let alone rare ones. Roller hot dogs are far more common than post office, but I would not want to see a wiener icon among the station features.

How common is this in your area for a station to have a "post office" at a gas station? I have not seen this in any places I have traveled. How would it benefit you to know there is a postal station at a particular rare gas station? Most folks that are local know where the post offices are located, and those not from around town would likely be better to use their web browser or other apps on their smart phones to find out where all the post stations are located to find the most convenient one. Is this contract post office open all hours that the station is open? Does it have pickups off hours from regular post offices in the area?

I am just trying to see if this would actually provide value to many members. I could be wrong. Maybe it is just not seen where I live and travel.
