a person makes, on their personal page, just like the number of posts are recorded on your personal page and avatar.

Gives everyone an idea who are participating members of Gas Buddy.

How is this an interesting idea SemiSteve? Or are you just posting for points in the wrong topic?

Don makes an excellent point. Considering the abuse we have witnessed since the inception of the mobile awards, this idea would only increase the abuse.

Don stated (and rightly so):

"Though I think that this could have a positive effect on increasing price input activity, it could also be abused easily by members who would only report prices to see their stats increase."

This sounds like an accurate description of what already transpires with the app awards and top spotter feature.

Not that there's a vote on this, but a respectful thumbs down if there were.

I thank you for your reply Don...but if they still only got points for the five they posted would that hurt.

I do think the main purpose of this site is about Gas and prices and other info...

I do think you would get more members that took posting prices more seriously, instead of arguing in the chat forums.

Anyway, thank you for your attention.

Though I think that this could have a positive effect on increasing price input activity, it could also be abused easily by members who would only report prices to see their stats increase. There are countless people that abuse their forum message count for this purpose. Inattentive/careless price posting is something we'd like to curb, especially when it comes to prices.

Thanks for your suggestion.

The side issue, not discussed so far, is "Gives everyone an idea who are participating members of Gas Buddy."

Not really; simply having the number of gas price posts is no more indicative of who is actively participating anymore than the number of message posts; those numbers can easily be accumulated in a short time and have no reflection on on-going/current activity. The easiest way to see who, locally is a participating member of Gas Buddy is to regularly check your local price posts; granted that might exclude a lot of people whose prices have been overwritten with more current price posting, but it's a start. Another way is to simply check your local leader boards periodically; if the numbers are increasing, the members are active.

Me honestly I don't think it's important to know how many times someone posts a price. What is important is making sure the price is as accurate as can be. From my home to my work and back i take the same route and in that same route I see the same gas stations everyday from Monday-Friday. So in that 10 hour or so time frame I am going to make sure to post the right price cause that's more important and honestly if this actually pulls through than I think it's just going to bring all kinds of chaos to this site and the workers that function this site.

No, no it is not. By looking at my point total there is no way you could know that I post prices for 10 to 12 stations, an average of two prices per station, twice a day.

That said, I agree that it would likely become another competition that would drive some members to repatedly post the same prices for the same stations ovcer and over or to post prices for stations they've not seen, or abuse the system in ways I'm not even thinking of and as such should not be done.

As others have said, it's pretty easy to figure out how many prices a member has posted by their point total.

I agree that it's too likely to draw abuse. The point total (and the associated vehicle icon) is already good for figuring out who's contributing; since 750 of the 975 possible points are from price spotting, it's hard for someone to accumulate points without prices.

The bad part of this suggestion is that, like gas price posting for the awards, is that some members will repeatedly post prices for one station, over and over and over, and will likely do the same for multiple stations. The "I've got more price post" members will make the honest price posters feel their contributions are insignificant and could likely discourage the honest price posters. In my opinion.

Better to not implement this idea and, for that matter, consider removing the "Posts" number. The "Points" are more than sufficient to recognize Gas Buddy contributions. Again, in my opinion.

This suggestion has been added to the Suggestion Tracking List as a new topic on an existing subject.

The number of reports could also be added to the left of forum msgs, say between Points: and Joined:, e.g. "Prices: 14,234,456". If the number exceeds 100,000,000, then it's "PRICES: 14,234,456. (The latter is a capital idea.)
