I would like news to be marked as read once you read them.

@ phpearso
The topic of this thread was "News"...
As far as the "Top Spotter" - I will spare you my thoughts about the awards program ;-)

If you browse the Suggest forum you are in or the "Talk Back to Us" you will find many threads talking about what does and doesn't work and the little quirks of the award programs. Start there...maybe you will find information helpful to you about the App awards.

When posting prices first in the day, my android does not always update the the top spotter correctly. Can this be corrected?

Gas Buddy is a great site!

Computers are much better at remembering things than humans are.

Gas_Buddy,

How about remembering if you read it? That works for me.

scoutmaster:

If you simply cannot afford to waste time re-reading or looking at a news item to see if you've already read it, it's necessary.

If you can spare a couple moments and aren't upset with the discovery that you've already seen the story, then it's merely "nice to have".

It's all a matter of time spent/time wasted, and the self-importance you attache to your time. Of course, in my opinion, if your time is so important that you absolutely cannot afford to unnecessarily open a news item on Gas Buddy - which is what you seem to be implying - then maybe no time should be spent opening the news articles in the first place.

The 1st question that pops into my mind is why is this necessary? Or is it one of those "nice to have" things?

It used to be that you could tell by checking the link color -- but that stopped working some years ago.

CampKohler:

The method used on some sites is that the "read" article is bolded or shaded or a background color is toggled when the article is first opened.

It doesn't seem, in my opinion, that it would justify any significant programming as the few seconds it might take to notice that an article was already opened (let alone read) is insignificant. In my opinion.

This suggestion has been added to the Suggestion Tracking List as a new subject.

How would this work if the same article appears in the list of five on two successive days?
