Hello,
For those of us with aging eyes...

It might be nice if the Gasbuddy app provided the ability to expand/shrink the size of the text displayed on the screen...

Normally, the size of the text is sufficient. However, there are certain areas where the text is displayed in a smaller font (for example, the address).

While we are at it... would it be possible to enable the application to display information when the phone is rotated from portrait mode to landscape mode?

Hi bklynse,

Sorry for the delay in response.

Depending on your mobile device, there should be zoom/legibility options to help improve display for users with poorer eyesight.

If you have a WP8 device, try going to Settings > Ease of Access > Screen Magnifier. After this it turned on, Double tap with two fingers. You can change the magnification level by double tapping with two fingers and holding. To pan up or down, use two fingers to pan around the screen.

Magnifying the GasBuddy app does work on our end. Adjusting the zoom level is kind of pain overall, but this is still doable.

I hope this helps.

-Don

Never mind that last question. All is clear now. I just tested a 5 and the three-finger tap is alive and well. What are the odds that it will work on the 3 and 5, but not the 4? Zero, that's what. (Nice try.)

I just checked my 3gs and it says IOS is 6.1.3 and is up-to-date. So which upgrade are you referring to?

CampKohler:
Actually, with the latest upgrade it works with two one-finger taps.

bklynse: As a follow-up, you can adjust the amount of zoom by a three-finger tap that ends in holding the fingers to the screen, followed by dragging the fingers up (enlarge) or down (shrink).

BTW, when enlarged, if you touch and hold with a single finger on a point near one edge of the screen, the entire image scrolls up, down, left or right until you lift your finger, which makes it easy to examine a particular area of the image.

Still, one wonders why the full site will enlarge/shrink with a spread/pinch, but the app won't.

GB: Are you sure about three one-finger taps on the 4? The three-finger tap works so well I can't imagine why they would want to change it. Is it a function of the phone itself or the IOS, which they all share? The current support blurb doesn't mention phone model differences.

"While I don't have that many apps on my iPhone 4S, none have the capability to resize the screen (that I know of)."

I don't know of any that can resize the screen either, but there are a (very) that can allow you to resize the font/type size. Of course, they are primarily text reading apps, something like that wouldn't work well in an app like GB where there are a lot of elements that have to be properly positioned, etc.

"Many apps on my Windows 8 Phone by HTC have the ability to resize the screen... Gasbudy does not... Which makes me believe that this is something app-specific about it."

As Byte_Doctor noted below, the screen (or the type on the screen) can be resized on the iPhone. I just successfully tried her suggestion (after, in the past, using my earlier suggestion of "two one-finger taps".

While I don't have that many apps on my iPhone 4S, none have the capability to resize the screen (that I know of). And, having just done Byte_Doctor's suggestion, it leads me to it's more device specific than it is app-specific.

Yeah this is a device capability, not the app.

Maxstar... while smartphones do have this capability... The application has to specifically state that it wants to make use of it... It is NOT the default.

The point is that, as far as I know, "smart" phones already have the ability to accommodate both suggestions so there is no real need for the Gasbuddy site to do so.

@ maxstar & Gas_Buddy:
There is a 3-finger-double-tap zoom feature in iOS, but you have to turn on Zoom in Settings - General - Accessibility - Vision

Once you do do the 3-finger-double-tap to zoom in (and it zooms in at the OS level so it works anywhere, anytime) you can use 3-finger press & hold to pan around the zoomed area, then 3-finger-double-tap to exit the zoomed mode.

Perhaps the feature was changed for the 4S. On my 3G holding three fingers together then tapping the screen twice will "zoom" the screen. The finger spread also works.

To avoid confusion, on the iPhone 4S it's not a "three-finger-tap".
It's three finger-taps. That is, three individual one-finger taps. And, for that matter, the screen/text will increase or decrease in size with two one finger taps.

This suggestion has been added to the Suggestion Tracking List as new subjects.

Looking at the full site with a iPhone, it rotates and pages can be expanded with the spreading fingers. This doesn't work with the mobile app or mobile site. One can use the three-finger-tap option to expand one level, but that is not as good as the spreading fingers method.

I would have thought that Windows 8 Phone can perform both of those functions.

Using the mobile app at m.marylandgasprices.com the information can be displayed when I rotate my iPhone from portrait mode to landscape mode.

Also, you can, if you access the website from your mobile app's browser, you can change the size of text displayed on the screen.

As TxJeans noted, the app works differently for different mobile devices.

First of all, it might be good to mention which APP you are using. Each is slightly different.
