I don't know if is just my phn but it seems that not all the time that you try to update a price using the app gets updated sometimes it stays the same price the previous user reported I have try up to 3x and it just don't update has anyone notice that?? And you should be able to read your notifications or buddy requests just like on the website also the spot for comments on the app should be the first thing you should see on top when you are looking at a gas station that your checking out and the previous or last comment should appear on top of the boxes when your gonna report prices cause there's a gas station in my area that is getting new pumps and they have been out of service for 2 weeks and people just keep reporting like if it was running that needs to be fix please... Thank you!! what you guys think??? Have great reporting time friends.

Hi Gabydominguez85,

The mobile application is not intended to have the full functionality of the websites, which is why some features remain as full website features only. The apps are designed to help find and report prices while on the go.

Every so often some prices may not appear instantaneously, but you will be credited for the prices anyway. This is part of the price validation system and is entirely normal.

If you notice a station that is closed, being a user with over 10,000 points you can access the Master Station List Database online and make appropriate changes to the station's status (ie. Closed - Temporarily, Closed - Permanently).

Alternatively you could contact us directly with the station details description the closure and we can make the change for you.

I guess you are responding to this "If you have ideas on several different subjects, it works better if put each one in a separate topic. *Also it gives you a chance to receive FAR more criticism. :-)"

I think it is self evident that if you have more topics, there is a greater opportunity for people to criticize and you will therefore receive more criticism. I don't see anyone saying you can't express a differing POV.

Really? Which people are you misinterpreting?

Some people think having a different opinion is criticisms.

My first post asked questions since the OP said "phn" - not everyone knows that the apps apparently are not the same on each phone platform. I didn't realize that until someone else made a comment about it. With any technology, it is good to state the platform being used (like which OS and browser for the main site).

Apparently the "phn" apps have problems sometimes with GPS, and a distance factor in posting. So, again a reasonable question.

I expressed my opinion on adding more functionality to the AP - For some reason it seems that some folks think that only those that AGREE with a suggestion should post any comments.

I also noted that the problem with the station that is out of service can be handled in the MSL by those w/ more than 10,000 points. I should have made that clear that it is from the main site. My apologies.

Gaby - sorry for the infighting and any addition to it that I might have played. I try to explain any negative view I have of any suggestion as well as comment on one's I agree with. Unfortunately, not everyone will agree with every suggestion and the PTB at Gas Buddy will sort throw the suggestions and comments and make changes based on THEIR views.

I do agree that the APPS sometimes are quirky (I often have to reload more than once with the Android), and that it is sometimes confusing discussing them when not everyone is on the same platform and very few have used all platforms which apparently have significant differences.

I also agree that the comment field should be readily available in a usable format on all apps especially since the current mantra from GB for dual pricing is to use the comment field.

I also think it would be a positive to the GB system to have an easy link out to the m. and full site from the APPS. We see that many APPS users tend not to come to the site for the polls, What's new and forums and those that do, want them in the APP which then turns the APP into the full site.

It might be good to have a sticky in each of the phone forums specific to learning from each other about the individual GB apps. Folks could help each other out with the nuances of their platform's app and can also look at conversations in the other platform apps and refine suggestions related to their platform and to the APP in general. Or, maybe stickies for info on each APP in the TBTU or SGBI.

As far as the asterisk, in my opinion, it is just more trolling.
When I first started visiting these couple of forums I didn't see this type of trolling. I saw some other infighting that was pretty bad between about 3 folks, but that seems to have died down or they have gone to their respective corners, but it was pretty much just directed at each other.

This suggestion has been added to the Suggestion Tracking List as new subjects.

Gaby: If you have ideas on several different subjects, it works better if put each one in a separate topic.*

re app problems: Whenever app performance seems less than stellar, reload the app and see if that fixes the problem before doing any testing.

re Comments: Any comment about a temporary station closure would have to come from the previous price reporter. If there was a price reported recently, it is likely that the station was open for business; that is to say, if the previous reporter saw that it was closed, rather than update a price report—where the comment would be entered—he would probably not make a report. If he were to do anything, he would likely change the station status in the MSL, which would prevent the station from showing up on the app from that time on until the status was returned to normal. Thus I think, while it might be useful to have the comment at top for other reasons, it won't do much for a station being temporarily closed.

A link to the full web site on the app would be useful. Other than that, anything else would bloat an app that works well.

Gaby, the comment box makes sense.

As for the station that is out of service, you can update that in the MSL as temp or perm closed. Are you saying that has been done and it still shows up on the APP for prices?

As for reading buddy requests and such, that is what I think Gas_Buddy is complaining about as bloat.

I do think a link out of the app to the m. and regular website would be nice to get the APP folk more integrated with the full Gas Buddy experience.

Gas_Buddy : I agree with keeping the app simple, but they could very easy integrate simple but very usefull information for the iPhone app, as I have in my thread below. The comment box I'm referring to is when you click the station to post a price at the bottom of the prices to be posted is a comment section for that station. Only way to see that comment is on the web interface & it could be important info as in the differences of prices with or without a car wash being posted, if I'm out & about & open the App I will not see that & wonder which price is posted. Yes I know I could go through my mobile browser & hit desktop view to see the comment, but that's a lot of steps I shouldn't have to go through, just to see what the poster may have said when they posted the price. I just explained it because I don't know if you have the Android App & I'm not sure how different they are in those regards....

Maybe what's needed is for you (among others) to come up with additional ideas that you think will make the app better. Realize, of course, that the moderators and management team seem to think that keeping the app simple to use (and primarily for posting/viewing gas prices); coming up with more "usefull" ideas might just bog down the app rather than make it better.

Gabydominguez85 : I understand what you mean by not seeing the comments you can make in the box below where you report a gas price on the iPhone app from the previous reporter. There is a station near, that has gas prices posted with the price of a gallon if you buy a car wash when purchasing gas & a price for just the gas with no car wash, I put the price for no car wash when reporting & then below it in the comments I post the price with a car wash, I can see the comment on the web, but when someone who hasn't seen it on the web doesn't see the comment in the app when they report & not say which price it is for , you don't know if the price is with or without a car wash that is getting reported, when out & about and look at the price with the app. That would be nice to see if the last reporter left a comment for the station they just reported & may have left a comment, but being able to see that comment in the iPhone app would be great. Like if someone went to update the price on the station I did, they would see that comment I left or someone else previously made & vice versa.

Well maybe something to let you know at least so you can go to the website I think they can do better than that like the iPhone app on the main screen has the share the app option I think that's useless I got use to the android app which in my opinion is a lil better and you can save your favorite stations and access them fast the IPhone can't do that and something very important that we should be able to do is comment about something without having to post a price first here's an example there's a station by me that has been down for over 2 weeks because they're getting new pumps and I was able to let people know on the website but people just keep updating prices and is not even open I updated the regular gas only so that people can see my comment saying that the station is not in service but as soon it got updated by another user the comment disappears and they keep on reporting, like I say before if they can put the comment box with the last comment before the prices then people will know what's going on and they will maybe stop..

So you would like notifications of private messages and whiteboard posts to show up on the app? Is that what you are saying?

I had a Samsung galaxy S2 and I have a IPhone and the apps are different but it still does it and I'm by the station when I report and lets be honest people doesnt go to the website to often just like me I had messages and notifications And I didn't know the app should have more tools to do more things without going to the web not just to report gas prices....

1st, it might be good to let the folks know which phone and APP. Apparently there are differences between the different APPS.

2nd, how far are you from the station when reporting on the APP when it doesn't update?

3rd - no need to have the messaging on the APP, the APP is for REPORTING gas prices. For anything else, fire up the m. (mobile) or full website....even feature phones can access the site.

If a station is closed temporarily or permanently, update it in the MSL.
