Yesterday Apple announced that the next version of iOS will include a feature called "iOS in the Car" that allows iPhone apps to be controlled via the buttons/touchscreens/voice-commands in certain cars. This seems like an ideal interface for the GasBuddy app to allow members to enter prices on the road without causing driving distractions. Does GasBuddy have any intent to implement this technology in a future app update?

CampKohler, I'm hoping that self-driving technology will be ready for the general public soon enough to make that a non-issue.

I have heard rumblings that "they" want to turn off any screen visible to the driver while the car is moving.

CK: It depends on what the app is trying to do. I can already implement any voice command that uses Siri by using a basic Bluetooth connection. This "iOS in the Car" is something new though, it actually displays app information on the car's screen. Any app trying to use that will require the car to have electronics built specifically for that purpose, so only new cars will have that functionality.

We've been waiting for iOS to catch up to Android OS with allowing the flexibility of voice command within third party apps, so this is definitely something we will want to take advantage of.

And do the voice commands have to be received by the car electronics or will the iPhone do it itself (so that those of us driving older vehicles can use the technology)?
