Get stations to award us a fuel card that you scan at the pump and it gives us a discount per gallon for accurately updating their fuel prices. 50 accurate updates to the same brand of station, gives you a nickel off the pump price or something of that nature?

Who would verify that a GB member had ACCURATELY updated the prices X number of times?

The station is really the only one in a position to do so, and I doubt they would welcome the extra work involved in verifying updates from numerous members in addition to giving up some of their razor thin profit margins for such a promotion.

Here in LA the Ralphs grocery store chain gives points on grocery purchases which can be used to obtain a fuel discount from Shell stations. The difference is that Ralphs is paying for this promotion to bring customers to their grocery stores, and it takes a LOT of points to get a gas discount.

Ahh Gas Buddy, any suggestion in this topic ends up on the wiki regardless of how baseless or useful it actually is!

CampKohler:

Just wondering, but how is "Gas stations to award us..." a suggestion that Gas Buddy could implement. Seems to me that the suggestion isn't particularly defined as a Gas Buddy suggestion as much as it is a suggestion for gas stations.

This suggestion has been added to the Sujggestion Tracking List as a new topic.

It's well-enough-defined to understand what he wants (although I don't think stations would support it). I don't think GB would want to tie rewards with reporting.

Realakman:

First, I'm going to assume that you haven't suggested this to any local gas stations and gotten a positive response from them. Is that correct?

Second, if you haven't suggested this to local gas stations, are you suggesting that Gas Buddy tries to solicit fuel cards from gas stations for your (and other members') "accurately updating their fuel prices"?

Just wondering, and forgetting that most gas stations operate off a 9 to 12 cent per gallon mark-up (in order to cover operating expenses), why should a gas station give you and others a discount simply for your posting 50 prices on an independent website for "the same brand of station" (not even for the same station)?

What would be the reason a gas station would want to take part in the program, and take such a loss of revenue? Basically I'm asking, if you're asking a gas station to give you a discount for your "50 accurate updates to the same brand of station", what's in it for them? Why should the gas station do it?

As an aside, this topic should not be include in the Suggested Topic List until it's better defined.
