What I wouldn't mind seeing is a button that shows a list of gas prices – but not for where you are NOR for a location you list in the entry line, but for a spot that you input for the sake of checking out prices.

As someone who works as a driver, I'd like to be able to look at the area around where I have to bring my car to at the end of the day and see right there what the prices are so I can decide where to pick up gas (there, or near where I am at the time I check out the prices). I'm sure that others would like to put in a point at/near their home so they can check out price fluctuations where they are and decide whether to buy where they're at, buy at home or wait things out (if they can afford to).

For the first time I am trying to post prices when I am traveling inter States. It is not easy to find the way to change the state and find the city and the station.

I just tried the ZIP search on the iPhone and it seems to work properly (or at least it comes up with different results for different ZIPs)! This is unlike the full-site ZIP search where every search for a ZIP with the same USPS city name produces the same results. If it can be made to work properly for the iPhone, why can't it be made to work properly for the full site?

I get what you are looking for. Not a bad idea. Currently you can search by zip or city on the app.

Here's an explanation of what I'm looking for:

Let's say that I'm up in the Whiting area, and I'm getting ready to go to Highland (day is finishing up, time to fill up). What I'd like is a button that acts like the "Find Gas Near Me" button, only instead of where I'm at, find it for around the I-94/Kennedy Avenue Interchange. Same radius, only for there instead of where I'm at.

Such a button could also work for a trip. Pick a spot near where you're going, and when you're nearing the place (say, a half hour away by Expressway) you can press the button and look at the prices where you'll be stopping instead of thumbing the map forward a bit. A way to plan ahead when using your smartphone or tablet.

Does that help out?

Clarification on whether this is an improvement/suggestion for the mobile apps or websites would help encourage a more accurate response.

I am having a hard time trying to figure out what it is you are asking for Godozo. You are asking for "a button that shows a list of gas prices – but not for where you are NOR for a location you list in the entry line, but for a spot that you input for the sake of checking out prices."

If I am reading it right, it seems that the "Map View" of the smart phone application will already do what you need. Can you explain better what it is you are looking for?

The shortcoming of the Saved Search solution is that the granularity of the search can be very poor. For example, in Sacramento, the area "Sacramento" covers a majority of the the metro-area (because it was decided to use the USPS city designations when the site was designed). Thus if you live in one small corner of the area, your search delivers a huge list of stations when what you want to see is a pertinent handful. Due to the "ZIP Search = Entire City problem," ZIPS couldn't be used to cure this. However, if the area searched happened to have only a handful of stations, this would not be a problem.

The FSL solution would work if a separate FSL were to be created containing only the stations of interest. But you would have to be careful to include all the possible stations where you might buy so that you wouldn't miss out on a good price. But that would only be a one-time effort.

What would be a prime solution would be a Saved Search based on a radius from one or more designated map points anywhere in the country. So, if you drove from L.A. to Portland often, you could include points along the route and then see what's the lowest on the price list that results and plan your buying accordingly. And, as I re-read Godozo's OP phrase "for a spot that you input," it sounds like that is exactly what he is asking for.

There are currently two features on the website that can help you accomplish this.

The first being the Favorite Station List option, the second being the Saved Search option.

If this is a mobile app suggestion, at this point in time, both of these features are only available in the Android version of the mobile app. We're planning on having more of these features available cross-platform in the future.

This would be a custom search or a Favorites List which already exists.

Are you asking for a short cut (i.e., "button") to pull up a list of the areas, rather than the current "Show Search Options" button that pulls up a list of the cities/areas, etc. from which you can choose the locations you want prices for? Just wondering, if you have changing locations/changing routes/etc, either during the day or each day, how would there be a single "button" that could bring up specific areas you might be travelling (that the maps don't already do)? That is, you're looking for a one-size-fits-all button?

Would not the various "map options" (already available) show you what you're asking for?
