How about adding "areas" specific to bodies of water so we can add/update/search for gas dock prices?

Many of the stations on the water have both gas docks & street side pumps, some/many with higher prices on the water.

Scrapheap:

"What if you used the existing structure and simply had a check box to indicate stations as marine fueling stations."

That's a good idea, one which could also be used for aviation fuel (which was commented on in at least one discussion thread a long time ago), marine diesel (on several occasions), CNG (regularly), off-road (or "colored") diesel (periodically), non-ethanol gas (regularly), racing fuel (on occasion) and propane (periodically), among other fuels. However, the moderators have pretty indicated they're not adding fuels outside the three regularly sold gasoline grades plus diesel.

Assuming Tod1d is referring to fuel for watercraft (and assuming he's not referring to "adding fuel pump locations adjacent to waterways), you're looking at the possibility of including marine gas oil (MGO), marine diesel oil (MDO), intermediate fuel oil (IFO), and marine fuel oil (MFO)(also known as heavy fuel oil, HFO).

If you're going to include marine fuels, you should at least (or at least first) include the various road vehicle fuels, as well as aviation fuel (for those that have aviation as their hobby rather than boating). Not that your suggestion is a bad one, it's just that I, for one, don't see that happening under Gas Buddy's basic plan. The fuels are too out of the ordinary mainstream Gas Buddy member.

The other thing that Tod1d could be suggesting (which makes CampKohler's addition premature) and which I noted below, is adding "gas stations" such as "the gas station at Downey's Marine Fuel and Munchies". If that's what Tod1d is looking for, then all that is is posting prices for a simple dockside located gas station, just as can currently be done for a previously unlisted gas station in (say) Richmond or Rockville.

Because Tod1d wrote "Many of the stations on the water have both gas docks & street side pumps", his post doesn't really indicate what he's asking for; is it marine fuel he's asking for, or is it for fueling automotive vehicles at stations located "dockside"?

Your suggestion is good, it's just that it seems to be (to me, at least from what the moderators have said over the past several years) that it's overarching and beyond what Gas Buddy wants to do (at least in the near future). Just my opinion, however.

So you're, in essence, suggesting there be another 170 or so Gas Buddy Marine Fuel websites, and then the areas subdivided (instead of into cities, etc.) into lakes, and other waterways?

What if you used the existing structure and simply had a check box to indicate stations as marine fueling stations. By default, these stations wouldn't be shown and their statistics would not affect the vehicle fuel price statistics. If you wanted to search for these stations, you would have to perform a search specifically for marine fuel.

First, this website is for fuel for vehicles, not for all forms of transport or equipment. Thus you don't have prices for aviation fuel, off-road fuel, etc.

Second, how many websites would be needed? Just as many as there are for car/truck fuel prices? So you're, in essence, suggesting there be another 170 or so Gas Buddy Marine Fuel websites, and then the areas subdivided (instead of into cities, etc.) into lakes, and other waterways?

Assuming you're interested in "Boat/Gas Dock prices" for your specific area, why not simply start a topic in the Detroit discussion category, with a title such as "Marine/Boating fuel prices for the Detroit area". In the original post indicate what it is you want people to do, maybe give an example. But wait until your next post before you say things such as "The price of fuel at Downey's Marine Fuel and Munchies is $3 per gallon." That distracts from the original post in which you set the basis for what you want.
